That's the standard process. The need for ID is for your protection - would you be happy for a third party to transfer £12k of your money?0 -

Suppose it depends. If you have £50K in your current account, have an average spend of £2k/mth from your current account and want to transfer £12K of into your savings, that should be allowed w/o quering too much about your ID.
If it's a £12K transfer from an account that has got £12,050 in it and regular outgoings of £2K, the matter might look different, and a responsible bank clerk might want to be sure they got proof that it was the account holder who requested this transfer.
What I don't understand though is why you need to go into a branch to transfer money from a current to a savings account with the same bank. If it's because it's a branch-only savings account, then it might be time to upgrade to an online one, may be even with a different institution.0 -
If the OP has more than a single HBOS account to use to make payments from (current accounts/esavers) the daily limit is £25K for each one. Must have the same payee set up each time separately however.
And 'internal' transfers still count toward the daily limit......under construction.... COVID is a [discontinued] scam0 -
