Stopping ticket

After being back a month from holiday and using East Midlands Airport a stopping ticket from Apcoa has arrived requesting £100 for stopping or £50 if I pay within 2 weeks. As I was only stopped with engine running and still in the vehicle for a matter of minutes I find this hard to accept especially as the place was deserted as well. The reason for stopping was to pick me wife up who is under the doctor for walking difficulties. Not sure what I should do next so would welcome any suggestions.

When is the letter dated and exactly what does the small print below the signature say please?'Parking tickets' issued by Private Parking Companies are not 'parking tickets' at all. They are unenforceable invoices as stated by MSE head Martin Lewis recently on TV.
My family and friends now know what's going on in private car parks and motorway services areas. :T

Ignore it completely. You don't have to pay. It's an unenforceable invoice. This is private land you were on, so normal rules around stopping/parking on public roads, which would result in a council or police ticket, do not apply. (BTW, don't attempt to use the same excuses around engine running/still in car if you ever get a Council PCN for the same kind of thing - it won't wash :-)
Do they actually call it a "stopping ticket", or is that what you called it? A copy of the letter (with your personal detsils edited out) would be useful. Apcoa have been a bit naughty with some of their tickets recently.0 -
What Hardworker said.
What was the date of the 'contraventon' and does it have any wording anywhere on the letter that states anything about registered keeper liability? Either on the small print under the signature (something like 'persons driving do so under the responsibility of the owner or keeper') or above the 'How To Pay' section stating something like 'if the driver doesn't pay then liability reverts to the registered keeper' or similar??
This is quite important!Je Suis Cecil.0 -
Hi so called offence dated 25/10/2012
Also says if the keeper of the vehicle was not the driver at the time of the breach of terms and conditions the keeper is required to provide full details of the driver failure to do so will mean that liability for this charge will revert to the registered keeper.
What do you think?0 -

Bingo! Pick any of the cuddly toys from the top shelf (we don't have goldfish anymore, bloody RSPCA...)
The easiest way to post it up is to host it on Tinypic and then post the URL but edit out the http:// bit. Make sure you obscure your name, address, registration number, and barcodes.
Are you up for reporting this to the DVLA? APCOA are in a spot of bother, and this letter clearly misrepresents your legal position by stating that the RK is liable, when they are most definitely not.Je Suis Cecil.0 -
Unfortunately site wont let me post this with links as a new user any other suggestions greatly appreciated.0

I wouldn't worry. We're all aware of the legislation here. You have been issed a fake ticket and you have no legal obligation to contact APCOA. If they feel the amount they seek from you is a calculation of landowner losses resulting from your actions, may they take the matter to County Court - and when they explain how they were able to offer you a 50% discount if losses were £100, the judge shall then award them the case, but until then - you don't have to worry about anything from any private body: APCOA or their collection agencies. You see why they'll never try court, because they will lose. The terms of their signage are not valid. Ignore them.0

Which was it? Important as you can report APCOA if it was September.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
