What is EVOO & CLO please?
I do feed raw eggs sometimes but I wouldn't have thought of giving the egg shell. Do you grind it up or just break it into pieces and put it in their dinner?

I give mine (great Danes) whole eggs, shell and all not even cracked and they eat them, one of them takes the whole egg in their mouth and bursts it in there and the others break it and lick it out of the dish. With regards to feeding raw, my lot all eat outside as I am not having green tripe and raw meat on my floors.

Ha ha, that made me laugh!!
I have to say, I don't end up with any of it on the floor.
I don't really want to make him eat outside, he's getting on a bit and I only have a back yard which isn't really very big, he'd be cold - lol
If he was to have any bigger bones than the chicken wings, he'd have to have those outside.
I think if I gave him a whole egg in his bowl, he'd probably pick it up and take it to his bed then break it in there - I can just imagine the smell a few days later !! I might try him with one outside though, wouldn't have to stay outside long with that. He likes being out in the yard in the Summer when the sun is shining, he finds a spot to sunbathe but he hates it when its cold, can't get back in quick enough.

I knew you had Danes, because I remember your posts about Magic but I didn't realse you fed them raw.
I know a GD breeder, she gives her Danes tins of sardines in oil each week for their coats.

I only give him the carbs to bulk his food out a bit as I don't want him losing anymore weight, I've just slimmed him down as he had put some on and he's now at 30kg.
If I gave him just meat, I think he would lose more weight.

Also. on the pack of tripe I bought, for a dog of mine's weight, they say 600 grammes of tripe, 600 grammes of rice/sweet potato/carbs and 600 grammes of pulped fruit/veg.
This in my opinion is far too much, I don't think my dog would want to eat all that, especially as they reckon 2-3% of the dogs ideal body weight should be fed per day.

If you are concerned about maintaining weight maybe ensure they are getting sufficient animal fat - it's nine calories a gram to carbs four calories a gram, more natural than extracted plant oils and easier to convert to bodyfat because the chemical structure is similar.

Tripe is lighter on calories than some meats I believe so it is not a like for like substitute for other meats. That is not to say it is bad or not nutritious, just that a different portion size is required. The percentage of a dog's bodyweight that should be fed per day varies with the food - a diet rich in vegetables (which are high in calorie free water) you would feed more than a diet rich in meat protein and animal fats.

Extra Virgin Olive Oil & Cod Liver Oil - the egg I break up with the potato masher usually with the banana then stir in whatever meat/fish they're having that day - the egg shell is a great source of calcium

at the moment I'm fostering a labradoodle & shes put on just over 10lb in the 6 weeks I've had, she's loving her new diet
