House alarm keeps going off...help!

The tamper will trigger if you break a cable.
The panic will trigger if you push the button i.e. make a connection. However, if it is a push to break panic button, you may have dislodged the wiring inside the button when it was pulled tight. This may be causing your intermittent alarm triggers.
I would suggest checking the connections inside the push button. If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!0 -
I'd check the above first, but another possibility is that you've "nipped" the cable with one of the cable clips - i.e. caught part of it between the base of the clip and the underlying skirting/flooring/whatever.
If so, you ~should~ be able to see it if examined closely, and simply removing the clip and squeezing it back into shape may remove the intermittent short - though it would be more reliable in future to replace that section of cable.0 -
Myser and fwor, thanks both, really appreciate those comments. Apparently by triggering the 'attack' button and keying in the passcode to turn the alarm off but not releasing the 'attack' button it should have broken the circuit so the fault cannot happen again. This is a good short term fix which will allow some sleep until I get an alarm engineer out over the next week.
Again, thanks for the comments. Happy New Year.0 -
Panic buttons can operate when the alarm system is armed or unarmed - so be careful!
All you have done is unarmed the alarm. If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!0 -
Tamper faults are common if no mainenance - especialy if the battery has not been replaced in max three/four years, Replace the battery inside the main panel, make sure you still have 13.8v coming out of the battery leads with battery not connected - charging circuit may be burnt out if there is no 12v, check fuses; if all ok panel needs replacing. Also tamper and pa at same time very indicative of battery probs.0
