installing a light fitting

Hi Guys,
Just wondered if any of you could let me know how easy it is to go from a standard light bulb and shade to a ceiling mounted light fitting. I've not got much experience of electrics bar wiring a plug but I;m generally pretty handy around the house and can turn a hand to most minor DIY projects.
I've had a look online at a few tutorials which seem okay but I was just wondering if anyone out there had actually done it and how hard it was or if there is anything I should be looking out for?
Thankyous and hug in advance

I think your OP is a bit confusing, because of the word standard (as in standard lamp) in it.
If I were to guess that you have a ceiling rose with cable hanging down with lamp & shade on it, and you want to change to a lamp fitting that screws directly into the ceiling, would I be right?0 -
You would indeed FWOR - Thank you for your reply btw
I later found out that my next door neighbour is an ex sparky so he helped Everyone has a dark side... apparently mine is called Harold?!? :huh:0
