new connections
 I am building a new house and I have been tryign to research the cheapest electricity supplier and it is a flaming nightmare!! Every time i try to get a quote, I'm asked who is my current supplier and how much i use. Obviously I have no supplier as yet and any electricity i use is at my parents house where i am currently dossing so it is impossible to get a new connections quote. I tried to get a price based on waht my parents use as my house will be just the second one down the road but all i get is a change over quote nad how much money they would save. It's driving me bonkers, is anyone suffering from this problem?

Your best option is to choose the electricty distributer in your area..they will be the cheapest..Hey folks...remember I might work for the company but I am a human and working in my own time, I will not responde to people who are rude, sarcy and crits me. My views and comments do not reflect British Gas and they are totally unreasponsable for my responses.0 -
Use a comparison site which allows you to selcect 'I don't know my usage', it should then ask you some questions and then estimate for you. Choose any company as your current supplier, it will then estimate based on that info which suppliers will be cheaper or more expensive and by how much.
Most utilities will fit a new supply for you, you have the added complication of factoring in the cost of a new supply, as they might charge different amounts.
Provided they don't tie you in, I would recommend getting whoever will fit the supply for the cheapest to install the meter as you can always switch a few weeks later. If they all charge the same, then get whoever is cheapest on the comparison sites to fit the meter then review your suppliers again before the winter.0 -
Anything to stop your parents supplying you via their meter and sharing a high volume discount ?
I'm sure there will be some difficulty such as wayleaves but it is just a thought.

Otherwise go onto the national grid web site and find out who provides the infrastructure in your area and initially sign up with them and then swap. (I'm EDF = Electricity de France see thread about moving the meter that is under way at the moment).0 -
I don't know of many suppliers that offer a high volume discount... in fact it is almost the other way around, as many suppliers cap the maximum dd reduction or give a fixed amount off. Same goes for possible dual fuel discounts.0
