Have you tried Andorra? You can kill yourself really cheaply there.

Cigs were between 16 and 18 euro (£10.60 and £12) for a carton of 200 when I was there last Sunday, i.e. £1.10 a packet! You're allowed to take just three cartons from Andorra into France - probably the same for Spain, but I don't know for sure.

I bought a litre of Grand Marnier, too. It was taken from a barrel - probably a pretend one - and poured into a plastic bottle. The bottle cost 30 centimes (20p) and the Grand Marnier 2.28 euro (£1.50-ish) for the litre.

Not sure if it's the real thing, though. A friend and I did a side-by-side comparison test, and we could taste a difference. Maybe the Andorran purchase was Grand Marnier Cordon jaune. Anyway, there wasn't much difference between them, and the cheapie stuff would be brill to put on pancakes, and I'm certainly going to have a go at "pickling" clementines in the hooch.

Talking of which, eau de vie for fruit preserves was around two euro a litre (£1.40).

Customs allowance for alcohol over 22º is two litres per person (into France, that is).

Edit: I'd better point out that Andorra is not counted as part of the EU, despite the fact that it is administered by the President of France and the Bishop of Urgell. (If I remember my history correctly).

Why dont you just take the advice of many and quit, i did and have never felt better!! It will save you money, you will be a lot healthier and you dont have to go to Spain just for the day after a couple of months you will have saved enough to go for two weeks.

If you dont want to give up, it is best to stay within guideline otherwise it could be a very expensive day out.

    Sorry for being cynical.

Yes, you do smoke more if you bring more back! The onus apparently is on Customs to prove that you bought them for non-personal use (if that's the case), not the other way round. There was something on TV some time ago about how this had changed that you don't have to prove they were for your consumption and cars could no longer be impounded (anyone remember seeing it?). Don't know exactly how this would work though. How can anyone prove anything? All very confusing, maybe we should take advice and give up and save a fortune. Mind you, I'm moving to Spain in a couple of weeks, so won't be a problem for me about how many to bring back!!

So my post was removed, ok no problem...........what i was advising people to do is no worse, than other posts, where people tell people to take advanage of discount codes (which have not been sent to these people)

Let's be honest most if not all the people who go to the canaries bring back more cigs than allowed. Some people sell these on at a profit. Some smoke them. If like me and you smoke them then the canaries is paradise. And everybody gets greedy and wants to bring more home. All i did was point out a way of doing this, instead of putting all your eggs in 1 basket, mix and match.

To Kevinyork, no i aint no Saint, and that is why i'm on this board to do as it says, moneysave, and by going to tenerife and being tempted by the low cost cigs and bringing more back than i'm allowed then what's wrong with that. At least i'm not booking a return day flight just to fill my case.

but the point is using discount codes is not illegal, smuggling is................ and if someone wants to try and smuggle through extra cigarettes themselves then thats up to them, I just didnt think this forum should be promoting an illegal activity and it appears the website agrees.
