o2 homephone and broadband failure

I need to vent about o2 homephone and broadband. I came home 4 days ago to find my phone line dead, and hence no phone or broadband. I called o2 who ran me through some checks and then told it me it would be fixed at the exchange within 3 days.
I called last night to find out it couldn't be fixed. An engineer has to come round, but wont be available for another 4 days!!!
I need my home phone because of a family crisis happening at the moment, and I need to be in contact with hospital doctors, and social services. I need the internet because I am self employed, and use it up to five hours a day.
So a week without any phone or broadband seems far too long. Has any one else been left stranded by o2 like this?

Sky did the same thing to me - we were without a phoneline/internet for a month and a half because BT Openreach (who install all the phonelines) are over-booked. 4 days is very fast considering how long I waited, and other people who are complaining that they've been given dates in January.
I did speak to OFCOM and make a complaint to the CEO of Sky, as I also need to regularly contact carers/social services/hospitals/etc, and I'm also self-employed, but there has to be an astonishingly long wait before they are breaking any guidelines, and even then there isn't much of a punishment.
I had to use a mixture of free wi-fi and my mobile, which wasn't ideal as signal was terrible, but did at least give me a mode of contact.0 -

Not as bad as you - but I have just left O2 because of their absolutely dreadful service.0 -

Is it a business account you have with O2?0 -
No, it's not a business account, but I'm a writer, and I use the internet a lot. Actually I was quoted another 4 days, on top of the 3 that had already passed, so it would have been 7 days to wait for the engineer's visit. Miraculously the phone was suddenly fixed this afternoon- the magic of MSE forums! :T0
