Advice please!

Hi all,

I sold a brand new leather coat on EBay quite a few weeks ago (28 September). The buyer messaged me at the time saying it did not fit, but was going to sell it on...she didn't want anything from me...she was just letting me know as we had been messaging each other quite a bit during the auction.
Any way...I told her about the next highest bidder who had really wanted it...so we both got in touch and that other bidder actually bought the coat from my buyer. All good I thought...and done my good turn for the day.

So...fast forward to yesterday...the eventual buyer contacted me to say that the finish on the jacket is rubbing off and causing a fair bit of 'damage' to things like her beige leather car interior...as in the dye has rubbed off and she cannot remove it!
She says the coat is fading by the day!!
Any way...she says she is going to raise it with EBay...who will obviously get in touch with my buyer...and she reckons that my buyer will raise a claim with me!!??
Is she correct?
I have been messaging her saying it might be worth getting in touch with the manufacturer to ask if any other complaints about this particular style...amongst other stuff...
I am in a bit of a dilemma as the jacket wasn't cheap, and I would like to help, but am wondering if anyone has any ideas what could happen with EBay?? Who is to say that she even got the coat I originally sold?

    You are borderline time wise for having a problem and new buyer needs to deal with her seller first.

    Only her seller can refund her, then your buyer has the ability to chase you, but the time frame through eBay is only 45 days from the date of payment.

    However, if your buyer sold it privately to the last buyer it becomes more problematic, although assuming she used PayPal then the 45 day limit still applies.

    I think my buyer sold it privately, but through PayPal.
    I guess I will just have to wait and see what happens...thank you!
  • You are not responsible for sorting out this situation.
    The new buyer needs to speak to the person who sold her the coat (your buyer).

    Your buyer can not come back to you to sort out an issues because they have sold it on to someone else, therefore they have accepted the goods.

    I doubt if Ebay will see it like that.

    If the OP's buyer makes a claim within the rules and time limits, I suspect that Ebay will treat it as a normal claim.

    Each seller in the chain has responsibility towards their buyer and, if the coat is indeed faulty, it is not unreasonable for that to end up as the OP's responsibility to resolve.

    If the coat is eventually returned to the OP, he/she may have to refund and take the matter up with whoever sold him/her the coat.
