...I need to strip the paint in out hallway but its 7 door frames! I don't have the time to do this and can't deal with my flat being in disarray for that long - does anyone know how much a reasonable amount of money would be pay for this as I don't want to get ripped off.

Try doing just one with paint on paint stripper, see how long it takes you.
Other than that, get at least 3 quotes from local tradesmen or odd job men.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

I would replace the architrave and just strip the linings - quicker - unless you have a particular reason for keeping the architrave.
Well - that's my MSE advice for the day...

i sympathise with you...we are currently doing 6 door frames, along with every skirting board in the house...its really quite a time consuming process but we did buy a heat gun from toolstation for about £20 and a trangular scraper and we now have a rule that every doay one of us has to do something towards the paint removal...
In terms of how much it would cost to hire someone to do it I guess the rate would be in the region of £100 per day or maybe a little more and probably 3-4 days work...frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!

Why do you need to strip them? I stripped a door, and the frame, plus two architraves. I do not recommend it. Either replace the architraves with new ones, or sand down and paint. Don't bother stripping.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

Stripping woodwork is hard work. Particularly since the VOC2010 regulations made chemical paint strippers unviable.
The best way to strip woodwork now is heat (rather dangerous for DIYer) or sanding the old coats off with a sanding tool although this is generally difficult with the contours in architraves. As mentioned above it would probably be best to replace the architraves and strip the linings (if essential).
If you have to strip them then I would recommend that you use a stripper called Peelaway, it's just about the only one that works!
Here is an article that I wrote about varnish stripping.0 -

I do not recommend it because it is very hard work. Unless you need to reveal the wood, and want to varnish it, it is better to sand down the old paint until it is smooth, then over paint. But if you must strip, there is a company that does a wide range of strippers, much cheaper than B&Q et al. See here:

They do something like Peelaway, and I think they were the inventors of the stuff. It might be based on caustic soda. You can also make that one yourself although caustic soda is VERY nasty, and decidedly dangerous, so I preferred to buy it ready made.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0 -

Where there are many layers of paint that have been badly applied eg drips, painting over areas where old paint has flaked off, I have found that only stripping it off gets it looking like new. It's hard work, but it does look much better!Solar install June 2022, Bath
