External Seagate HD problem....

I own an external Seagate 250GB hard drive.
The last few days it hasn't been working properly. Its keeps repeating the same noises, sort of a beep then what sounds like a marble dropping onto a hard surface.
I've had it about 10 months but its only been in use about 6 months.
Have tried copy / paste the folders to an internal drive, but the process stops about half way through.
Is the drive knackered ? And is it possible to retrieve the data on there safely ?
Will look for the receipt tomorrow anyway.

Recently my Seagate external HD packed in and I managed to get a replacement under warranty free of charge. I couldn't recover the data - that's one of the things Seagate stipulates that they can't recover the data - but as it was a copy of what was on my PC anyway, it didn't matter.
When posting your HD back to Seagate, send it by Special Delivery. Just post the HD not any of the cables.
They were really quick. The whole process took less than a week and my new HD is working fine ... no problems.0 -

Luckily I still had the original box and packaging, including the plastic shield thing inside that the HD came in. I then printed off and enclosed any necessary forms or return numbers and wrapped the whole box in strong brown paper and put address and return address labels on the outside.
If you don't have the original packaging, perhaps you can buy something similar cheaply on Ebay. There are lots of packaging suppliers on there. Or ask your local computer shop for advice?
Remember, you only need to return the HD, not the leads or stand.0
