Exceeded limit?

Evening all

Following a bit of a half term clear out I have received a message saying I have reached my limits. I understood that private sellers were allowed 100 listings?? not sure on that, but I googled and that is what I read.

I have only listed 14 items this week and 21 this month - is this a glitch? Why else would I get this message?

Would it be to do with branded items? I think there is a limit on listing named goods, and not just high end ones.
  • Was it from Paypal or Ebay?

Oh that could well be it, it was Karen Millen, Hollister and other items (all named but not high end designer).

I guess I will wait a few weeks then list them, just being impatient with being off for a week and having time on my hands.

Many thanks for your very prompt reply, do you know how many I can list and what the frequency is so that I don't spend time typing the listing to have it refused and so will schedule it?

Ebay, it wouldn't let me hit list item. I typed them up during the week and scheduled them for a Thursday (10 day listing) for 2 weekends. First 2 accepted and others didn't go live and I got a message saying I had exceeded limits, but they are not in unsold or scheduled so lost all the listings :(

I think its 10 branded items in a calender month, but not sure as i havnt ever had to deal with the limits.
You can still list them - without using the brand (not sure if thats just in the title or in the listing description too).
Hopefully somebody more knowledgable will help you more.

Thank you - it will be a few more weeks before I have time to list again so I'll take 10 as the magic number and use that as a guide. Many thanks again for taking the time to assist, it is much appreciated.

If you have recently started selling, eBay will limit your account in order to prevent you getting out of your depth when starting up - and to protect buyers who might be the victims of people who upload a lot of expensive phantom items with no intention of sending anything.

They will lift limits but you have to show that you can do it properly, please your buyers and not break any particular rules. It's always better to start off slowly anyway - it's a very steep learning curve and people are not quick to forgive a mistake.

I have been on ebay for 6 years (but sporadically) and have over 200 fb as a seller (over 700 in total buying and selling), I think it's the type of item and the volume. I normally list 2 per month say but had a bit of time on my hands so listed a bit more. Would this still be classed as a new seller?

Another nutty Ebay policy. If your an established Ebayer - why do they punish you just for not using Ebay as much in the past. Now you want to use it more - they punish you.

Tomorrow is free listing. Many ebayers will take them up on their 100 item offer - only to be thrown off Ebay for using it too much. You couldn't make it up.

Not unless you had a dormant account for some reason (I don't list very much any more but keep listing something every nine months or so to make sure my account is kept current). It must be the designer item limit then.

I don't think it's terribly nutty. Some of the items with restrictions attached are easily faked and eBay don't want people loading the site up with cheap fake tat and running away with people's money. There's been too much bad publicity surrounding eBay and fakes to allow eBay much room for manoeuvre. Amazon restrict private sellers (or non-professional sellers) to certain categories and around Christmas limit who can list toys - so in a way it is both sites protecting the end consumer by limiting people who would just spam the site with rubbish.

It's not a punishment, it's probably common sense, to prevent a complete free-for-all in which people get hurt.
