Tesco Direct

Ordered a new 32 inch Toshiba TV from Tesco last weekend. Had an email shortly after to say the order had been rejected. Checked with card company who confirmed that they had approved the transaction. Tesco would not say why the order was rejected. I have ordered from them before.

The TV was £178 but is now £248. Do you think it was mispriced which was why it was pulled? I'd rather they were honest about it which would have saved the palaver checking the credit card.

  • Same old story with tesco direct - I've made many orders via HUKD website on things that look to be a bargain, every single time Tesco cancels the order and refunds my money at their leisure.

I no longer bother - not sure if this is huge incompetence on their part or some scheme to make interest on the money before they refund (neither would be a surprise.)
  • We had this recently too on a Sony TV - it rejected the order within 24 hours - I called customer services and they couldn't give me a reason for the rejection - I politely moaned and after a few 'consultations' with a supervisor, they put the order through manually and I paid a 2nd time. The refund for the 1st order came through within 48 hours. I got quite a bargain, so it's always worth a phone call!!! I was determined not to let Tesco get the better of me!!!!
  • Good job forensiclou! I'm glad to hear someone got them to honour their mistake

Too right!!! I've had problems with various companies in the past and don't stand for it any more!!! Im always polite but firm, which I find works wonders! :rotfl:
  • Plus, it's funny when you query their 'rejection' and they have no idea what to tell you - they are just as confused sometimes!! They couldn't give me a valid reason (ie out if stock or incorrect pricing) so they had no choice but to redo the order. They did try to make me re-order online, but I refused as they couldn't guarantee it wouldn't happen again. I persuaded them to do it over the phone...... Very happy with my shiny new bargain tv!! I'd always advise people to speak to a person, the guys at Tesco have (generally!!!) been really helpful.
  • My experiences with tesco customer services on the phone, online and instore have always been very poor (despite always being polite with them.) So much so I now do all my shopping at Sainsburys, who have in my experience been a lot more helpful.

The only times I shop with tesco now are the inevitably canceled orders from tesco direct, and the emergency runs into store usually to buy replacement school uniform for ones that has been lost/stained/ripped.

As we're on the vent board - every time I do go in to the local Tesco some employee always manages to barge one of those big stock cages into me as I'm trying to get through the store
  • Yep totally agree James - I have also defected to sainsburys as the norm - never get a mispriced item on my bill, better customer service and a lot less stressful than !!!!!!!g Tescos lol!
  • I have to say that whilst I've had similar issues a few times the staff at my local store have been fantastic. They've honoured deals for me when the customer care team on the phone did nothing, sorted out issues and problems caused by the website team really quickly and always been completely lovely.
I think it very much depends on the staff you get through to on the phone or what your local store is like which is a shame as you would have thought they would have at least tried to unify a decent standard of service
Everyone has a dark side... apparently mine is called Harold?!?

Tried phoning. It just rings and rings so gave up. No information about likely queue time. Never use them again.
