Help Please! Cheapest way to fly from Manchester to LA

Hi,
can anyone please help?
I am travelling to the convention centre in Anaheim LA at the begining of August 2013, looking to spend around 3 days here and then move up towards Hollywood.
The most expensive element of the holiday appears to be the flight, some flights go from Manchester to London and through to LA and some change in Europe. The one thing I don't want to do for 1 weeks holiday is spend 24 hours travelling there and 24 hours travelling back so I'm looking for the cheapest way to do this, any ideas?
I'm looking at around £1000 for flights and accomodation with Expedia with 1 change and around a 2 hour wait in between which is ok.
Any suggestions on the cheapest way to fly to LA but not as mentioned (24 hour travel) above will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I would strongly recommend avoiding any flights which involve a connection on the east coast of the US as you'll have to suffer a long internal flight. Even if it costs a little more you'll be better off connecting via Heathrow or Amsterdam.
For flights, look at https://www.kayak.co.uk0 -
I agree - definitely don't change planes in the US as the seat pitch on internal flights is generally poor, they don't have seat back media usually and you have to pay for everything (think Ryanair with seat reservations, but you're on the plane for 6 hours)0

If price is your priority over time then you'll have to take a longer route. Something has to give! Depending on your actual dates try Delta through Atlanta, cheapest fare is £863.51 - but remember you are travelling in peak period so cheap fares are not in abundance!0
