It can only be a matter of time before we get it? It would appear to be moving south to north by the reports on here...
mcculloch29 I've always thought that we get off reasonably lightly on our town and if we get it, it must be very bad. Our problem is more when it does come here it seems to take ages to get rid of it.
At least if the electric and gas don't go off I can be safe and warmish, have plenty of food and nice music on the radio and access to the net and can avoid having to go out."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Well, it's offical. I'm going to prison. I just have to fill in my security clearance tomorrow morning and then give notice to my ward manager.
I've had to use up a load of vacation since New Years and have had a load of time to think. I have a pretty nice part time job in my area's largest hospital. But in reality, I only enjoy 1/2 my shifts due to some pretty horrible women I work with. When the patients comment on them "don't worry, I work with people like her" or "is she off her meds", I know it's not me.
Due to their seniority, they will never leave, the work is light and mostly day shifts (pretty hard to find in hospital nursing). I have to work until I'm 68 to collect my pension out here. I cannot face them for another 15 years.
So I know as others that have said the only thing that can change is me. So I started looking for a new unit. The government has built a huge new prison about 10 minutes drive from my house. I have a friend working there and she said I'd be perfect. So I applied. It's not the best shift schedule ever but it's my choice, a shorter commute, and I don't have to be alone with a patient, I'll always be behind a glass wall or have a guard with me. After getting assaulted in the autumn by a 66yo woman, it sounds like a peaceful place.
If I really don't like it, under my union contract I get 12 weeks to decide, I can head back to my old job, no harm/no foul.
It's a sad state of affairs when I think I'll be safer nursing in a prison than in a hospital.0 -
Wc - may you enjoy your time doing porridge, in the clink
I have a friend who works in a mens prison and says they are so protective of her, she is admin but they are always polite as well.

According to the latest weather prediction of snow, we seem pencilled in for some on...Valentine's Day."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Morning everyone, we have a little sprinkling of snow.
WC, well done n the new job. I have a friend who works at whitemore. She says its ok most of the time, and she is always with another warden - always male. The repercussions for doing anything towards the staff is always done straight away. She was trying to get me to work in the mail room. They have to read all the letters and check they arent impregnated with drugs. Not sure i would want to read any personal mesages tho. Photos are also vetted!! the mind boggles.
We had a lovely day with our friends, it was nice to just to catch up. We were busy reminising about our last holiday with them, and thats when we sort of all decided we should aim to go on holiday again. But do a road trip type holiday. Obviously it will be a while before we can go, we are looking at 2 years. So we will have to try and start saving. Easier said than done in these times. Some months we are only just breaking even. This week i need new tyres on my car, OH had them on his car before christmas. DD fiance will be doing them, as he gets them at cost price. It works out at nearly half price.
Need to get organised, have to take mum and her friend on holiday later - its a coach trip so not far to take her. Then work on a late shift.
Take care everyone xBSC member 137

We have snow here too, and it was so wet last night I would have sworn blind it wouldn't settle, so am quite surprised. Both children are a bit poorly so off school today. DD has been complaining of stomach pains for at least a week now and at times they seem particularly bad. I've been working on the basis that it's a virus but if it goes on much more she'll need to see the doctor. Am slowly working my way through our stores, but have decided to start the 5:2 way of eating, so fasting for 2 days a week - must be the cheapest diet there is! I've lost a stone in 5 weeks so am happy so far.0

Snow here, next door have manger to block the WHOLE driveway with a broken down car instead of pushing the car onto their drive so we can get out. Just as well I am dying on the sofa all day. If it hasn't been moved later when DH needs to get out then we shall have to have words. I actually think they have gone out and left it, they are pig ignorant like that!Start info Dec11

Pops - been catching up - you could also make a pancake and stuff it with your stir fry ingredients for a change???Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0

Possession, great weight loss! There is a bug doing the rounds with really gripey tummy pains, several friends kids have had it in the past week or so. DH has been complaining of very low gripes too.
WCC - great news about the new job, hope it goes well for you.
Still lots of snow in the village, main roads are clear though so DDs managed to get to school and college. There's a drifty bit against my conservatory doors that must be around two feet. The sky is getting blacker by the minute over the channel so it will either come in on the tide change or get pulled out.
We've arranged for the boiler work to start, happy with one of the quotes (the most expensive but we felt he was far more professional and likeable). I think I've pretty much made up my mind that I'm going to do the kitchen refit myself, the only thing I can't do is the electrics and the ceiling plastering so will get someone in to do those. The plumbing is ok and nothings moving far so I an tackle that. The walls will need sorting but I was planning on pine cladding and wall paper which hide a multitude of sins, floor needs tiling which will be a new one on me but I can tile walls so this should be easy enough. I need to fill some big vent holes but have watched a tutorial on that. The kitchen units are base ones only, nice and easy and my Dad has offered to do the worksurfaces for me (he was a carpenter before he retired so he'll do a lovely job, he's going to put some new doors on for me too). So, glutton for punishment that I am, I'm going to give it a go (and save around £5k in labour costs). Can't wait to get started now!"Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C.
