Reading back through the thread I have realised how many of us have benefited from the knowledge shared on here and put our prepping skills to good use...probably much more than many of us suspected we would have to! Thanks to everyone for all the help and information you share. Its a great feeling to know we can ask questions, share information and have a laugh with others who understand what the hell we are talking about! Well done everyone!

Not a bad bone in his body WCS but he's always right, even when he's wrong and that is annoying to live with but we all know how I am with my frantic/worry etc so he got the bad deal there I reckon. Don't tell him that though.

2tonsils you're so right about the thread. It is my right arm. I've felt debilitated as a housewife without it these past few weeks (6 and counted ;) ). So much in the way of knowledge is sat perusing this thread. I don't think there's been a question asked that has been ignored on here. Such a diverse group of people who can help with any situation that comes along.

    'tis great! :D

The weather is certainly challenging us all this year isn't it. Nature is giving us a whipping.

Hi all I really struggled at school becose of my dyslexia I left at 14 to work in a chip shop, since then I have been back to college and done the equivalent to a intera design degree. I still struggle with the boys reading and homework I have a fab programme on my computer that turns what I think is a word into a word lol. I also have a problem with numbers I haven't got a bloody clue lol.

I have a problem with my weight allso I was always slim 8/10 till I had kids now I go between 16/18 no matter what I do I can't get my weight down I am truly sick of it feel like a fat frumpy pig.

Or well dh has gone to watch his beloved leeds United so me and the boys are home alone one is upstairs on him ipad watching Mr stink again on on laptop and ipad at the same time layed out on our new carpet infrount of the fire researching his homework of tudors.

I better get my !!!! in gear and make dh and all his pals some stew for when they return from football x
I have dyslexia so I apologize for my spelling and grammar
  • Hey FUDDLE you are both good folks, and deserve to be as happy as sandboys!!!!! You sound complimentary to each other, a good working partenership if ever I heard of one. Cheers Lyn xxx.

I am right handed but eat left handed - as does my sister. My mum was left handed but ate right handed, and only one of her 6 children turned out to be left handed. My SIL and BIL are both right handed with 2 left handed children! Odd.

We have many dyslexic students in our university and there are provisions in place for them, based on individual need - extra time, a reader, a writer, computer, different coloured paper etc are all available. If we get work in that looks like the student may be dyslexic (how funny, it took me 5 times to type that correctly! :D) then we see if they have an assessment and if not then we will advise the student to seek the help. Most do really well.

I think weight and size is about being happy with who you are. Gok Wan does have a point about dressing to your size and getting confidence, I love what he does for those women. I am 5'7" and a size 14 - if you saw me you wouldn't think I needed to lose weight. But I am 2 stone heavier than when I got married - then I was a size 12 - 14 so not that different. I would like to lose a stone and am trying to get some weight off me. I struggle with exercise as I can't abide the gym or aerobics, would like swimming if it didn't get you so wet (), I like yoga but it doesn't burn off many calories. I was running but have boogered up my knees and struggle to do anything when it is cold! I walk part way to work and that helps, I may persuade OH to go for a walk this PM while it is bright.

Great idea 2T...I eat fruit and veg, not been told to but with my kidney probs it appears potatoes and bananas are especially high in potassium so I have gone back to boiling potatoes twice or soaking them and draining the water which absorbs the extra starch/potassium.

Haven't totally given up on bananas but I am eating smaller ones or halving them if I eat a larger one...it appears you still have to get some potassium into the system even with my problem. If I do that and avoid other foods with potassium on that same day.

I like a jacket potatoes but now wonder if I can because of the above situation...I might be able to find a way around that though or again avoid other things on the same day? I suppose it is a bit like trying to avoid Gluten in some way...

I do like porridge but I prefer it with milk rather than water but again am watching how much milk I use...I'll ask about that again when I see my Consultant, I was using semi-skimmed but purchased skimmed the other day, don't know how much difference that makes if any at all.

Yes I could make home made soup and maybe though I have many kitchen gadgets a stick blender might be handy for that as was suggested the other day by someone.

The stews I make in the slow cooker etc...mainly vegetable based are similar to soup. I chop up the meat and vegetables different ways...sometimes chunky/sometimes very small...

Cutting back on the meat(mainly due to watching the budget)will meant what I have is going to last me ages especially eating smaller portions and that will help healthwise.

And as you suggest you can get a few meals out of one recipe over a few days...

Fuddle you mentioned the weather as a challenge..it certainly is for us this year in Greece...I have never know a year like it...hottest , longest summer ever then Baltic cold spells followed by weeks of terrible storms.... It makes me wonder what is coming next!

Just had a bulletin sent to me that Russia has declared a state of emergency because the temperature has dropped to minus 74 degrees f...that is minus 59 degrees in centigrade...blimey the ice age is coming!

Good point, you need to feel comfortable in your skin, besides it's the only one we've got!

I don't want to spend more money and would prefer to put Mum's money to such use but can't really wait so am thinking to hide the carpets that have seen better days, Aldi's have some rugs and runners on Thursday(seem reasonable)and I'd like some new curtains. I could do with four pairs(for windows)and a pair for the front door(if I moved I would take them with me)

There was some on offer at Aldi's today but they are pretty basic but would be ok for me(Fully lined)in red, aubegine or gold.

I think the measurements will be ok for the windows but the largest is too short for the front door. I think Poundstretcher have some curtains that may be worth looking at(maybe they have some different lengths and prices)

I'm new to this(my curtains have been up years, decades more like)

Can you tell me if when they say 163cmsx183cms the first measurement is the length or width?

Its bad enough having to convert metric to feet and inches...I'm not a metric person...:p:o

The first measurement is the width and each curtain should be roughly the same width of your window, so you have some fold in it.
