    NuttyP,
My teenage years were the 70's and I came in at the tailend of the 50's so as I am heading the wrong way(middle 50's this year:()my shortened name of Pop's is appropriate. Age is only a number but in my head I am still nearer 20 the body says otherwise.:p

No offence to anyone intended I'll talk and sit with anyone and yet it feels wrong like the other day the person who called from the HA to tell me how much worse off I am likely to be...mentioned about getting out and clubs were mentioned that reminded of the kind that elderly attended and played dominoes etc...I thought that's not me:eek:but in approx 15 years(if I am still around)I'll be 70:cry:

Softstuff:-:grouphug: It may be inflamed and you may have a Bursitis.

Yes, you still get sign on for your NI credits if JSA runs out, also applies to those on contribution based ESA. When the money ends after 365 days and you cannot get income based ESA, you are still receiving ESA and therefore you can still sign on for your NI credits.

If after 2017 a pensioner gets £150 per week that x52 weeks = £7800 per annum. Assuming that the tax threshold is going to be at least £10,000 that will only leave £2200 before any private pension starts to be taxed. :(
Not great for those who have saved for their retirement, but because they may now be out of range of top-up benefits it will be a nightmare for those who have no extra pension at all.

    Try this too... http://www.paullewis.co.uk/

He answers people and posts on his twitter feed too https://twitter.com/paullewismoney

I don't know that I can afford to retire if I find myself working again(I'm ill so should not attempt to)and if I find myself in that situation it will have to be very light and enough to make it worth doing but when they put the official retirement age back I believed that meant working until I am 67 but looking at the tables above I would work until I am 66. A delay of a year...

Found it Popperwell! Thanks! Some very interesting questions and answers on there for all others also interested. Now I need to think about whether I can try to save for some extra years. My concern with this is that the goal posts will be moved yet again and I still won't qualify for the FSP:(

It does appear that there are going to be many really poorly off people who will not be able to count on their Husband's contributions after 2017:(

I think my DH has around 43 years NI Cntributions, so all those extra years he has above 35 are now seemingly useless -but I'm not sure about this, it's only my understanding that they will count towards nothing.

I now need to brighten myself up:) and not let the doom and gloom get the better of me. Some cooking to be done for DHs tea. I will not let them beat me! Whilst I am able (and often not able) I will carry on, so I'm off to make some HM Haslet and a Lasagne.:)

    Afternoon all.
Fuddle i am so glad you have got a car. Reading about your walk to school made me cringe, not so much for the length of the walk but for the safe crossing of the roads.
Unixgirl i have my fingers crossed the interview results in a job for you.
I cant remember who but somebody mentioned about pearl barley in a stew that stuck to the bottom of the pan. Well i had just put a stewpot of mixed wilted veg and some stewing steak on so i ran straight to the kitchen and threw in a handful of soup mix with pearl barley. I love that stuff and will add dumplings tonight after rainbows.
I cant think about pensions at the moment. Its just too much for me to take in. I will at some point but not right now. Right now it is all i can do to hold my family together in one piece.
I am a single parent and although i work, my job is not very good income wise but it does allow me to be flexible for my children. I deliver betterware catalogues. the income is very low at the moment although i hope that will change as customers in my territory get to know me and know that i am reliable. The trouble is that although i want to work and earn a decent income, i feel that i am already working - i am a parent and that is hard work! To do a proper job of bringing up a family takes a lot of effort and time and when you are on your own it is so much harder. I did work as a registered childminder but had to give up when my eldest became mentally ill.
Now i feel torn. My children still need me to be there for them (especially the eldest who needs me to be able to ring her at any moment when she has a wobble and thinks i dont love her if i dont call straight away) but i have to be able to go to work and earn a living too. It doesnt work. Thats why i chose the job that i am doing. It means i can phone my daughter as soon as she needs me and prevent her self harming but still earn a (very) little bit of money.
And if you got to the bottom of that , thank you for listening and now could anyone tell me why my optician told me i had to go to dr's to have my blood pressure checked after she had looked at the back of my eyes? Appointment for that is friday.

Glad it helped...like you I am doing my upmost to try and be positive and adapt to whatever is thrown my way(easy for me to say)I still think of Mum and Dad and have my moments but am still doing better. It's funny for comfort how like you my mind turns to food:)

Isn't funny you can buy Lorne sausage(popular in Scotland)made in squares/rectangles which is beef but they don't do a pork version. I have satrted eating beef again...not a lot but some after not eating it for nearly 30 years...

I've heard of Haslet, may try that sometime...as I said the other day I'd like to get some Mutton but so far...no luck!

Sevenup eye tests can highlight possible high blood pressure now. So it's best to visit your GP, have it checked, and if it is on the high side it can be treated.

Sevenup01:-Guessing here, ?dilated veins at back of Retina indecating high blood pressure?
You are right being a parent is a tough job for two people never mind you on your own. The good news is that as long as you are claiming Child Benefit you are receiving NI credits. You will get Child Benefit until your last one leaves Further Education. So work out how many years that will be and as long as it is over ten you will receive a state pension. After ten years it is calculated by adding up the contributing years. Full pensions will be paid to those who have 35 years of contributions.

    Totally get that Sevenup,
Of course you are going to put your family first and again its all well and good penaising many who cannot work in such circumstances but look what the public saves the state from having to pay for...even those who end up with a reduced pension or none will have to be supported in some way...even if what they pay isn't great.

You can't live on fresh air...

Not allowed to link to medical matters on MSE but if you wish to read it I am Pming a link to answer your question but it still is not something to worry over. But the Dr may prescribe meds to reduce your BP or suggest a change of diet.

I see fellow posters have answered your question a little.
