I think 'Fish Week' is a busy week in Katieowl's workplace.

It's a celebration of our wonderful local seafood...Specials on all week, last year I made bouillabaisse everyday with local fish and seafood, platters fresh sushi each day, we had lobster and crab salads, and I did the local seafood dish of cockles with bacon and laverbread. My manager had the week off.... :D :rotfl:

Katieowl:- Cockles and bacon sound wonderful, could you post the recipe please.
Give us the strength to encounter that which is to come, that we may be brave in peril, constant in tribulation, temparate in wrath, and in all changes of fortune, and down to the gates of death, loyal and loving to one another.”
  • I've just put my (Christmas pressie) halogen oven on for the first time. The bulb lit for a fraction of a second and then went out so it must have blown up (the temperature was turned to high enough to need the bulb on). Is this a common problem with them? It may have to go back if it is as the instructions for changing the bulb look quite involved.

It's been lovely to see the sun here today. Three washes dried on the line (I've been saving them up as I hate using the TD). The only thing is, when did the glass on the living room door get so filthy?!!

I hope someone is getting some nice snow - we rarely do here and I love it (particularly on a day when I don't have to go anywhere in the car).

Rosie it sounds faulty, if you only got it at Christmas I would take it back, as you should not be changing the bulb if you have never used it.

    Hiya OMO! :j
    Kidcat wishing your back better.
Had the PILs over today so they could fix DS's basketball hoop which was his xmas pressie from them. It took much longer than expected as these things do. But in preparation for them coming the house is now lovely and clean and tidy - downstairs at least.

possession - I love it when there is a reason to get sorted, it always gets much better results, we are having guests for dinner Friday night, and I am looking forward to how clean the house will be :)
  • Thanks Kidcat. I had a feeling it may be faulty. Unfortunately it came from the bay of E. E-mail to the seller coming up - at least it was a shop seller, rather than a private auction.

And, welcome to OMO. I don't post that often, but they are lovely people.

I had a quick google but I can't find one the way I make it... I had it in a restaurant locally and copied it but it goes like this.

Fry the bacon, cut into little pieces with some onions, and throw a slosh of white wine on it and bubble until reduced. Mix in a tub of laverbread* and your prepared cockles, mix it all together and put in an oven proof dish, top with a breadcrumb gratin, which I make in a food processor with a dash of olive oil which makes it really crispy, and some people add cheese to the topping. I like cheese too :) Sorry no measurements! Depends on how much you have and how big your dish is. Serve with crusty bread.

*Laverbread is sold here in Tesco on the fish counter prepared and ready to use. If you collect your own laver from the beach it needs hours of boiling - much easier to buy it. I absolutely LOVE laver, it's traditionally a breakfast food here, some people just plop it onto the plates with a fried breakfast, but I make it the other way - into little patties with oatmeal, which are then fried (traditionally in bacon fat) Nom Nom Nom...it's incredibly good for you full of protein, iron and trace elements.
