Fuddle--might be worth posting on gumtree seeing if anyone is trying to get rid of their excess seedlings. A couple of mates of mine have an allotment and they've got plenty of leftovers but don't know many people.

They tried to pass off some beetroot but no way was I having that. I think I hate beetroot as much as Mardatha hates kale.:rotfl:

Fuddle, you could try Freecycle , if you ask for spare plants, someone may be able to help! Is there a local garden or allotment club in your area - they are usually very helpful and happy to give new gardeners a bit of help and support.

ETA - Cavolo Nero is great, very easy to grow and delicious - just remember to take the leaf rib out of big leaves, they are very tough.

I meant to say earlier, another thing that is good to grow is pea sprouts - these are very trendy now, but are really tasty, taste just like peas, and are good to have on salads to add a different flavour and texture.

You can grow the dried marrowfat peas that you get in a box for making mushy peas (I buy them by the 3kg bag, so had plenty on hand :rotfl:). Just fill a large seed tray with multi purpose compost, firm it down and poke in the dried peas - I got 10 rows of 8 peas in a tray - about 1/2 inch deep. Pull the soil over and water well. Leave somewhere warm and bright, where mice won't get them, in a greenhouse or even a bright windowsill. Keep them moist and in 3 weeks to a month you should have a tray of lovely shoots about 4" high and ready to cut as many as you need. You may get a second flush of shoots from the cut stems. Costs virtually nothing and quite yummy.

Had a lovely day with OH for, his birthday. Went to yarm and, found a gorgeous little independent little cafe. It was very quaint and served real tea and fresh italian bread with goats cheese. So we shared this before, lunch. Then we went for a walk on, the hills, I had To stop a it was, too much for me. Then found a lovely country pub. The pub wasn't to busy and the lads loved it.

Took D to the tea shop myself and fuddle love, she didn't like it. when I asked her why she said not enough gossip or nutters to eavesdrop to lol the nosey get lol I got treated by get D today and insisted on buying me lunch in town.

    courgettes though really ?!

I'm going to plant some peas, radishes, beetroot, leeks, swedes soon. Oh and, some garlic, . They saved me a fortune last winter.

Last winter I successfully grew lambs lettuce, winter lettuce and winter spring onions in containers. I am sure that these would all grow in 6 ltr milk containers.
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.
