Where are you? December 2012
The jewel-like skyline of Dubai is at its most alluring when viewed from Fairmont The Palm, Dubai, the newest hotel on the emirate's spectacular man-made Palm Island. And the scintillating outlook is just one of the hotel's many big draws: whether you make a beeline for the private beach, the vast Willow Stream Spa or the cigar bar stocked with single malts, this is a fabulously indulgent place to stay.
Enter this month's Where Are You? competition and you could win a holiday for two here. The prize, worth about £3,300, includes five nights' bed-and-breakfast in a Fairmont Deluxe room, two one-hour spa treatments, return Etihad Pearl Business Class flights from Heathrow and transfers. It is subject to availability and must be taken before 1 November 2013. For more information, visit www.fairmont.com/palm-dubai
To enter, identify the location where the photograph was taken and send in your entry to arrive by 31 December. Correct answers will be placed in a random prize-draw. All correct entries will also be included in the Grand Prize draw at the end of the current competition period (1 October 2012-30 September 2013).
Clue:
It all started with half a bag of cement more than 25 years ago, but now the patchworked pile behind this equally colourful caravan measures 50ft high and 150ft wide. The curious mound and chromatic trailer (as it's called round these parts) were decorated by a former soldier who began building his outdoor art gallery to convey his belief that 'God is love'. After about four years of work, the unforgiving desert winds caused the original mound to crumble, and the artist had to start again. He rebuilt it using a mixture of traditional adobe and straw, which he reinforced with paint. About 100,000 gallons now coat the mountain, all donated by visitors. Extracts from the Bible as well as images of flowers, trees, waterfalls and suns adorn the hulking artwork, which can be found east of an inland saline sea that lies on a renowned 800-mile-long fault line. In 1914 the area was named after Egypt's great river, although it is thousands of miles away from the ancient land of the Pharaohs. Where are you?
