Are HMRC Ignoring Me or Their Website Doesn't Work??

Hi,
I started going self employed back in end of May 2012, 6 weeks later I have, within the deadline (or I think/thought) have re-registered as self employed on the HMRC website (I say re-registered as I was self employed years between 07-09) and it gave me the option to tick to say I was self employed...
after I registered a web page popped up say the details given will be passed on to the relevant department. Am I supposed to receive some sort of confirmation through the post as I'm supposed to be paying NIC class 2 now, I thought I'd get a demand by now.
I tried registering again last month, the same message the details given will be passed on to the relevant department and.....nothing.
I am also a full time employee on PAYE and want to pay income tax on my self employment job as well and they ain't making it easy.
I have no way of contacting them on the phone and it seems letter writing seems to be the only option?

Anyone with advice on what to do?

Kind Regards

M

When people register as self employed there are 2 separate processes at HMRC.

    One deals with Income Tax.

The other deals with National Insurance.

You already have the on-line acknowledgement of your registration so what else do you need.

    Income Tax.

First timers will need a UTR (10 digit reference number) which will be posted to them.

As a second timer you should already have a UTR and, especially if you quoted your UTR when registering, the first time HMRC will need to contact you will be next April when they issue a 2012/12 Tax Return or Notice to File.

    National Insurance.

I am not familiar with the process here but would assume that their first need to contact you would be when you are due to pay your first Class 2 payment.

Others currently seem to be experiencing delays on this so I wouldn’t think it is worth you chasing it up.

I've just had one from 6 April 2011 to 5 April 2013 in one go, so there's definitely nothing new here.

Make sure you're putting enough money to one side here.
