Car Security - CCTV systems - advice pls

Hi,

We've been having a few problems with car security - minor vandalism in the area. We've seen on ebay lots of "in car CCTV systems which run off the car's cigarette lighter.

We wondered if anyone has experience of using one of these systems and if so how well or otherwise they work? Also, our concern is if left on overnight wouldn't they run down the car battery by morning, or over time?

Would be grateful to hear from anyone with first hand experience of these and any recommendations.

Many thx!

  • They're usually used to catch motoring incidents whilst you're driving, not whilst it's parked up.

A friend has a CCTV system to watch over his car throughout the night. It was about £300 from Maplin which included one Infra-Red CCTV camera and a 4 channel recorder. From what I have seen, it is pretty decent quality and he likes it. It's attached to his property and overlooks the car on the driveway.

When you do a search for in car cctv on ebay all it brings up is what you call road cams, which are designed for insurance purposes. They go up by rear view mirror and face forward, so if you break hard or hit something, they record the incident and some record the force of the impact.

If your looking to record what goes on outside of the car during the night or when car is parked up, then as the above person says, a home cctv is your best option. Can pick them up from £129, although at that they are not the best camera's.
