I was suggesting the car was a lemon due to probably bad maintenance/abuse
or more likely the car has been abused or badly maintained in the past
If it was indeed the current owner who has allowed this to happen then it changes everything from the perspective of the garage - IMO the car is still a lemon, I know from experience that once a car has overheated enough to blow the HG other parts are often also prone to failure.

In hindsight - "At only 24k it sounds like you got a real lemon!" should read "At such low milage it sounds like the car is a real lemon"

we had it less than a week when the warning light came on we took it straight in they replaced the radiator fault kept happening we told them the next day and refused to drive it back as we did not want it damaged.

they recovered car and spent the best part of 2 weeks fixing it.

all i wanted to know was were the faults connected and was there any underlying engine faults ie 2 gasket faults. but what you say makes sense.

WHY IS IT OUR FAULT we made sure that the radiator never ran dry whilst getting it back.

it just seems strange that we have had 3 corsas and 2 zaferias none haven had any major faults.

will this have damaged the engine

the radiator was paid for by the warranty that we took out. the other two repair they have have done for free. so i guess that points to it not being our fault.

I wasn't alluding to it being your fault - merely accepting that if this had happened in the 6 months that you have owned the car then it is possible.

If the radiator fault was an issue within a week of purchase, I'll stand by the "you've been sold a lemon" comment.

Agreed that the fact they sorted the problems out might suggest they knew about them already (if not then they have gone above and beyond - not usual for most car dealers IME.)

As to whether it has caused extra damage to the car, that is debatable - as Wig said the car may well be fixed and good to go. Personally after suffering head gasket failure I noticed other unconnected components seemed to fail - to me, logically the fact that the engine got hot enough to damage the head gasket could well impact on other parts (I'm no professional mechanic - just a tightwad who insists on repairing his own cars.)

As its now been fixed, the garage now appear to have caught up with the maintenance that was ignored in its early life. The work you've noted, if done properly, doesn't point to an ongoing defect, nor is it likely to recur.

their senior mechanic has said the same thing as you well informed folks. he thinks the gasket was not fitted right by them. seems to have worked no more burning smell.
