My nephew wanted to fly back from Brazil for his Gran's funeral but Insure and Go refused to reimburse and was also very dismissive on the phone

I must admit that I wouldn't have expected that travel insurance would cover this sort of thing (but have not checked). What did the insurance policy say? They are usually very specific about what is/isn't covered.
This highlights a common mistake made by travellers ... they look for the cheapest insurance possible and do not read the small print. In many cases policies do not cover some basic activites that you would expect to do (e.g. jet skis, skuba diving etc.). You need to make sure that your insurance covers you for the activities that you wish to partake in.
Another common mistake is not declaring something from your medical history. As has happened on many occasions in the past the insurance is voided if you have hidden something (e.g. high blood pressure, heart condition etc.).
If there is one industry that the phrase 'you pay for what you get' applies to then it is travel insurance.

A case of making the small print larger and on the the front and the large print
smaller and on the back. It's probably easier working back to front with insurance.0 -

I jst had a look at the policy wording on the 'Inusre and Go' Website and it is actually confusing.
In the section 'Sections of Insurance, Section A - Cancelling and curtailing short your holiday', point 2 it saysThe death, injury or serious illness of a relative, business associate or a person with whom you have booked to travel or a relative or friend living abroad with whom you plan to stay.
However, in 'Section B - Medical and other expenses, point 5 it saysThe extra cost for you to return home following the death, serious injury or serious illness of a relative or business associate.
Do we have anybody with a degree in gobbledy-gook that can maybe answer this?
