thoughts on shelf brackets/sizes

I want to get something like this for shelves in a spare room alcove. The shelves are 75cm long and 30cm deep, just plain pine, and will be used for books.
Would these brackets be suitable? And any comments re quality etc?

Also-could I get away with the medium (180mm) or should I get large (240mm) to go with 30cm deep shelves?

It depends how much load you will put on and where, but if it's possible that you might in future want to put heavy things at the front, 180mm will give inadequate support.

Quality? Can't tell as there are no photos of them without the covers in place.

I will definitely not be putting heavy things at the front. If there were heavy things they would be at the back of the shelf. Its for a spare room, so really only going to be books. Mainly paperbacks but some hardbacks.
Is there a guide anywhere on minimum bracket sizes for certain shelves?

Sorry, for some reason it linked from ebay.com here are uk pics with the brackets themselves visible in a couple of pics

The smaller ones would certainly be strong enough for books which were back against the wall, however if you are going to use shelves that are 300mm deep the temptation will be there to put something in front of them (even if you don't it'll be another area to collect dust.)

I'd go for the larger ones with 300mm shelves or go for a cut-down shallow shelf with the smaller brackets, also worth considering is the likelihood that children will use the shelf edge as a climbing hold?
  • We don't have kids, and aren't planning on them, and it is a spare bedroom, so any visiting ones wouldn't be likely to be up there. But the shelves are 30cm, and fill the alcove nicely so would like to stick with those :) Will go for the larger brackets.
