MSE drinks?

Hello all, I've just joined the site, though have been following the great advice here for a little while now.
I've been doing well trying to reduce out grocery bill, but was wondering what do to about soft drinks.
Myself and DH (especially DH!) seem to go through a vast amount of soft drinks every week, and this is stopping the grocery bill reducing arch as it could.
DH prefers to buy 12 or 24 packs of cans, with the idea that they will last longer than 2l bottles but they seem to disappear twice as fast!
Neither of us are big alcohol or tea/coffee drinkers, so this is our main 'liquid intake' lol.
Just wondered if there was an MSE way round this? What does everyone else drink?

diluting juice or water. OH was a big fizzy juice drinker until I stopped buying so many and he had to buy it out of his own pocket.... he then appreciated just how much it costs. When I do buy them I buy them on offer (refuse to pay anymore than £2 for multipack 8 cans of cola) or buy at Home Bargains/B&M etcCC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0

I've started on Value fizzy water (17p) diluted with low sugar Hi Juice (£1.49 bottle) much, much healthier than fizzy pop and loads of flavours to choose from. After 4 years of heartache, 3 rounds of IVF and 1 loss :A - we are finally expecting our miracle Ki11en - May 2014 :j
And a VERY surprise miracle in March 2017!0 -
value range lemonade is only 17p a big bottle in my local supermarket - can add squash to this for a range of cheapy pop if you like it?0

My BF agreed to just have a 2L bottle once a week, usually at the weekend so that it's more of a treat than a regular drink.
Water, squash or value juice the rest of the time* Be happy, be heart shaped, sparkle and shine *0 -
I agree with everyone above - fizzy drinks are a treat! Start buying the big bottles again instead, buy value or own brand and buy less
Go for squash (1 bottle of Tesco Value orange, lemon or blackcurrant = 32p, and does me and OH a week), juice (diluted a bit with water makes it go further) and good old tap water!
We also buy big multipacks of water, 12 for £1.50 (if this isn't available we wait until there is a deal on then buy several packs) and if we are going on a day trip somewhere we grab a couple of these as we leave the house. Much cheaper than buying out and we re-use the bottles to fill with squash to take to the supermarket etc in case we get thirsty and tempted! We have been doing this for about 18months now and its saved us £100's, OH drinks a lot.GC2012: Nov £130.52/£125

Like others above, me and my OH just get a big bottle of something fizzy for the weekend so it really is a treat. I think the only thing is that if your OH is used to drinking it daily and regularly, he might get a bit crabby from withdrawal so adding some fruit juice to sparkling water is another good one, my favourite way is making a huge jug of squash (no hassle to get a glass then) and keeping it in the fridge, drinking it as cold as possible kind of helps me forget that it isn't fizzy and makes it very refreshing.
Also, it's worth trying value or own brand fizzy drinks if you find it's a struggle to cut out fizzy drinks in the week completely. Some are quite nice!

I used to buy addicted to Coca Cola lol!
I don't like drinking jsut water - though I do at work. I also don't really like the cheap stuff, I prefer Coca Cola.
But I made myself stop drinking too much coke, and started treating it as a treat - I always have some coke at home but for some time I refused to buy it to get off it..
And got addicted to Vimto instead!! It is the only squash I drink at home, I am fussy and I don't really like anything else.. But at £1 for bottle that lasts a week+ it is big difference..
I always buy in bulk when on offer or go to B&M, they always have it there for less then Mr T, Mr A or Mr S..
Oh and I also have SodaStream. You can get them at car boot sales, or buy the new shiny ones... I now fizz up my Vimto too when I fancy some fizz:-) Ridiculous, I know..0 -

Switch to squash as a 2 litre bottle of squash will last so much longer than a 2 litre fizzy, especially if you drink it weak.0

I drink value squash and the occasional glass of wine. OH's drink of choice is coke zero. I don't begrudge his coke because it is much cheaper than my wine, even if he does get through more of it. I tend to stock up when its on offer and always buy bottles to keep in the fridge. Cans are better value when you're out and about e.g. on holiday or only drink fizzy drinks once in a while so the bottle would go flat. Bottles are much more economical for regular consumption.0
