Electricity Bill for 3 bed house living alone
Hi All,
I am about to buy a three bed, fairly new (10 years old) home to live in by myself. I am trying to do some budgeting for monthly costs (this is my first own home) and I was hoping people may be able to help with what i may be expected to pay for in electricity on a monthly basis. The house is oil fuelled for heating. I will only have a washing machine, fridge, freezer, tv and laptop, and lights using the main electricity.
If anyone has any guidance on what i may be expected to pay for heating (oil) this would also be gratefully received.
Thank you

Hi mbrad111, I would budget around £50 pm for electric, to start with, see how you get on for a quarter (bear in mind the winter quarter is the most expensive so you can expect it to drop during spring/summer). Best to over-budget and get a nice credit balance than under pay and be hit with a huge catch up bill come January.....happy new year! As for oil, most oil suppliers will allow you to pay on a budget plan, or you can squirrel the money away and pay for the oil on a per delivery basis, I think I have seen prices around 55p per litre, but this depends on where abouts in the country you are
CC limits £26000
Long term CC debt £0
Total low rate loan debt £3000
Almost debt free feeling, priceless.
Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.0 -
Thanks spinningsheep. May i ask you what you'd expect for usage of oil to be on average per month when living alone, obviously taking into account the winter/summer difference!0

£33 for electricity for two of us, you will presumably have less washing than two people but possibly not a lot less cooker use as it takes as much electricity to cook a two person meal as one (more or less). Your fridge/freezer use is same regardless of no. people in the house I imagine. You might use less light bulb electric as us as you can only be in one room at a time! Can't help you on the oil.0

Oil is cheaper than LPG, but much more than mains gas. How big is the tank? Bulk purchases are cheaper per litre than small deliveries. No free lunch, and no free laptop
