Outlook Express Recovery: Reimporting Messages

I have just done a repair of Outlook Express 6 for a friend. His Inbox became corrupted and I had to recreate the inbox.dbx folder. All working fine now.
I managed to recover a couple of hundred emails using a free utility called dbxtract 4.5, which are now in a desktop folder. These open OK in Outlook Express, but I can't work out how to actually reimport them into the Inbox. The 'Import' function in OE doesn't allow me to do so, as it says that OE is still running and needs to be closed. Which obviously it is.
Can I just drag the messages into the .dbx folder?

I'm sure I've done this before. (Saved old emails from dead account before re-install)
Why not try it?
I can't see much going wrong.
Possibly copy/save anything already in the .dbx folder.Move along, nothing to see.0 -
