It occurred that it is a place where people can come unstuck. I saw someone at an auction about a year ago and he used to be in a particular market and was surprised that the prices were going low. He'd had a couple of years out doing other things and was buying up lots of items that he thought were very cheap. Despite me and other people telling him that the market had changed he spent a small fortune and hasn't been seen since.
So many markets have changed so much in the last few years if you have been out of something for a while it's a good idea to have a refresher course before rushing back in.
I've made the mistake myself- that's why I know about Wedgwood. A few years back I sold some at a good price, and bought more a while after at what I thought was a bargain price- and I couldn't even give the stuff away.
in the last year I have also taken a fairly big loss on a 1920s ladies metal 'chainmail' evening bag. i saw one go on a TV programme for around £150 so when I saw one in an antique shop for £40 I thought I had a real money spinner.
It was listed and listed and listed until i was sick of it- in the end I sold it for about £8 to an American buyer after putting it on ebay.com.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. hi all, strangely enough, there's a rather surreal happy ending to this Wedgewood scenario. After reading your replies, I was inspired to get in touch with Wedgewood and found there was a museum.
I described the item and read out the numbers on the box. A curator of their museum gave me a ring back. He had looked out the original design documents and confirmed that this had been a special design and commission of just 1,800 units, back in 1999.
Whilst the museum have all the documents, they don't have a single example of the finished pieces, so I took his details and have posted one to the museum, c/o the curator.
Amazing to think that these rare (if unfashionable) Wedgewood pieces came within minutes of going to landfill!"The secret of life is honesty and fair dealing.

Car booted a load of Wedgwood jasper stuff this year, did ok with it but luckily it hadn't cost me anything so I was glad to get whatever I could for it. From the conversations I overheard I think it was bought by people who were hoping to make a profit on it.
As pulliptears says, the charity shops are awash with the stuff around here.0
