Kitchen and bathroom paint question

In spring we had our house repainted inside. For most of the rooms we just used normal emulsion. For the high wear areas however like the hall we used a scrubbable emulsion but there are marks all over it already (mucky husband.....2 children) and I'm nervous about scrubbing it too vigourously.

In the bathroom and kitchen we used special kitchen and bathroom paint and any marks I can just wipe off....it is a revelation and I ask myself why I didn't paint the whole house in that stuff.

Is there any reason why you wouldn't? (Just for future reference)

Thanks,

Nuninge

Oddly enough I painted my kitchen in normal emulsion, and the rest of the house in acrylic paint, which is what I think you used in your bathroom and kitchen. I wish I'd used it in the kitchen. The reason not to use it everywhere is cost. It costs twice as much as normal paint. And I found it needed one more coat as it covers less well. But IMO it is worth it. As you say, it wipes clean so easily.

  • No reason not to if you need a durable finish, I assume you used acrylic eggshell in the bathroom? There is a durable matt paint from Dulux called diamond matt (much better than the DIY version; endurance matt). Also similar paints by Crown and Little Greene.

They do cost more but you get what you pay for. May save you money/time in future with no need to redecorate for longer.
  • But don't be fooled by the name ...

    kitchen paint?

    bathroom paint?

It's EXACTLY the same as buying vinyl silk, it's just that the paint companies & DIY shops know that most DIYers don't know that so they call it kitchen/bathroom paint and charge extra!!!
