Herbs & Spices - where best to buy (now Julian Graves is no more)
Where's the best place to get herbs/spices refills?
I had just about got the hang of buying the 'bulk' bags from Julian Graves, rather than the expensive pots from Sbry's/Schwartz, and they go and go bust!
They wouldn't have survived on the tiny amount I spent there anyway! (I only noticed this week that the Bracknell shop had shut -- the last time I passed the shop was in July!)

I buy some of mine in Asian/Oriental shops but Aldi/Lidl have the common ones reasonably cheaply too.0 -
Holland and Barrett may have them, not sure if all their stores stock them, but ours has the same packet, they have just taken the JG logo off them.0

If you have a B & M then go there for your dried herbs, a very good selection at competitive prices. Some spices too but not a vast selection. The best place for those are Asian supermarkets."If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

Check out the 'ethnic' aisles of the supermarkets. My local Morissons has some spices by the bag there.0

My local Asda and Tesco normally have a huge clearout of their oldish herbs and spices stock every few months. You end up with huge bags or turmeric and corriander for like 50p after it has been reduced.
Also, hit the Asian stores when it is Ramadhan (before Eid) as they tend to have all their killer bargains then. You could buy a massive bag of turmeric/chilli/corriander/cumin for a cheap price and it will last you all year and then some.0 -
Definitely try H&B since they were part of the same group althoguht i cant imagine they would be cheaper than an asian foods style shop.0

That'd be a lifetime supply for me!
There's a Holland & Barrett in Bracknell, so maybe I'll check that out.
Thanks.0 -
Makro and Costco do large tubs for generally about the same price as you pay for a piddly little jar in the supermarkets. Even do Schwartz if you like paying for a name.
If you've got a friend who uses them, buy some large quantites and share it.Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?0
