Hi,
I have had my computer for a few years now; have had to reinstall windows 7 a few times as I like messing with software and eventually had to reinstall. I have two copies of windows 7 on my computer, one on C drive and one on D drive.
Bought from a well known UK pc maker, came complete with windows 7 install disk and booklet etc.
Started to get a message today" this copy of windows is not genuine"when I started to use acronis true image to put the backup copy back on D.
I know that it is 100% genuine.
Is there a way to get talking to a Microsoft tech that won't cost me a fortune to get this matter sorted out and maybe get a new key?
A bit confusing, I tested it at this Microsoft sitee and it says is is genuine so why all the messages and desktop turning black?

Done a virus scan with malwarebytes and AVG but all clear
Thanks
Justin

Two copies?? Do you have a licence with COA for the second 'copy' or are you using the same key for both??0

Thanks for reply, I'm using the same key for both, never a problem up to know.
Its a bit strange really, its only when I try to put a backup of my windows 7 image onto the D drive using Acronis true image home 2010 and windows 7 on drive C (and even when I block internet activity through my firewall) I get the message, sometimes if I restart the computer the not genuine message goes away.

Are you using the key at the bottom of the laptop for both or are both pre-activated?0

I had this problem when I updated my mac to lion from snow leopard. I think your serial number has a limited shelf life. I use Parallels to get windows 7. The only way I could resolve it was to ring Microsoft on 0844 8002400. The operator will give you the necessary instructions to get you back to normal.0

Anyway, take a look here

Thanks very much for all the help, I am using the product key that came with desktop computer and the windows 7 install disk.
Got it from pcspecialist, a good company to deal with I found.
I'm beginning to think that (as I have now read the terms and conditions about only one copy per computer) it might be something to do with that its able to scan the boot sequence or something like that.
Thanks again

Is it an 'OEM' copy of Windows 7 or a 'Retail' version?
OEM is stuck to 1 computer, so if you've upgraded it too much they may deem it to be new. If it's been legitimate upgrades and you're not shifting it to a different computer, you should be OK.0
