Incorrect Car Insurance Details

Hi

Need some guidance.

I took car insurance over the phone and received the documents. I looked through the policy document was really shocked to see so many of my personal details recorded incorrectly, there was error after error. I stated I wanted to protect my no claims years but it was written that I requested not to.

These errors are no fault of my own and the insurance company won't let me protect my no claims now, they won't make changes to the policy.

Where do I stand on this matter ?

Thanks

Write in with a formal complaint about their errors asking them to correct them.

If they refuse escalate the issues.

If they quoted originally for protected ncd, and you are paying the price agreed then point that out in your complaint.

How long after you phoned them did you get the documents and then check them. Normally, over the phone they tell you to check them carefully, and then contact them if any of the details are wrong so that they can amend them. Ive never had a problem with them amending them.
I'm getting the impression that yu didnt do it straightaway but I';m happy to be corrected.

  • Hi

Its been 4 days since I took out the policy. I have 14 days to cancel the policy but they will charge me over £100 in cancellation fees. I was shocked at the errors stated on the document it was like the insurance advisor on the phone was not paying any attention to what I was saying.

I don't want to cancel my policy and pay a cancellation fee for their mistake.

This is the first insurance provider i have encounter where they won't let you change your no claims protection.
  • It states in the documents ring us if anything is incorrect but the no claims protection decision is apparently fixed at the point you agree to take out the policy and can't be changed.
  • Which company is it?
Why did you not do it over the net where you could have inputted all of the information yourself?

I am not sure whether distance selling regulations covers telephone sales or insurance but I do think you have a case to argue that the cancellation charges are excessive UNLESS you were told about them when you phoned.

Why not ask for a copy of the transcript?
  • Its a well known insurance company, don't know if i should state on here. I tried to take policy over the net but wouldn't let me complete the process so phoned them up, i even stated to the sales advisor to just recall my online details rather than them starting all over again. The sales advisior said did not have my online details which I think was a lie, as I later called back for another query and a different sales advisor had all my online insurance quotes with that company.

I'm going to request the phone transcript, just been messed around.
  • Put an official complaint in and tell them as part of it you want the call transcript if they do not uphold the complaint.

Whilst the system may prevent them from adding NCD Protection to an incepted policy they will certainly be able to deal with the issue - at worse they can cancel the new policy, waive fees evidently and set up a new policy and backdate it to the original inception date.
