Laptop (again!)

Options
Hi,

I bought a laptop from a supermarket online in January, and by April, it was acting very strangely - I had lots of trouble with the manufacture as well as the supermarket giving me false information (and admitting this) and it ended up with the motherboard and the the hard drive being replaced.

Now about a month ago, the sound stopped working, and I was wondering if there was anything I could do bar having another repair? I would usually, but am reluctant as I am worried that it will go wrong again. Especially as I am in my 3rd year of university and as I am in the middle of my dissertation I really need my laptop.

I spoke to the supermarket on the phone but as I have severely bad anxiety problems and all the rest, I ended up having a panic / asthma attack whilst on the phone to them and just couldn't ring back.

Can you see the sound/volume icon in the tray near the clock?
How do I add a signature?

Yes I can, what is happening is that when I turn my laptop on, it says it's unmuted, but the only sound that works is any windows sound, so not internet itunes etc, when I 'open the sound up' nothing in that is muted, and it won't let me mute anything - other times, it starts up already muted and won't unmute

    Model number of Dell?

Are you backing up all of your work to an external source, in the case of the thing failing again?
