When should I buy $USD ? Is rate going to change ?

I'm holidaying in Florida at end of May 07. Right now, the exchange rate looks really good - currently about $1.92 with Travelex.

Does anyone have any idea or thoughts on what may happen to the rate over the next 6 weeks or so ?

I know any advice may be risky, but I'd be happy to get any input. I'm not sure whether to buy now when the rate is good, or just hold off and hope it doesn't change for the worse.

Any idea's ?

If you're happy with that rate go for it if not hang off but it could go up it could go down!

Rather than exchange money you'll get a much better rate using a nationwide credit card. In the US they'll take cards for even the smallest amount no problem.

last couple of US trips I have had had best rate from Marks & Spencers. If you have one of their More credit cards you can also get points too and they don't charge you for buying currency on it.

as always, you take your chance with rates as it's impossible to know when to get the best deal. if you are happy with what you consider a good rate, get your dollars, and then don't look again...!!!

Personally i would wait till the next decsion on Intrest rates by the Bank of England ( early may)

a raise is predicted. i purchased mine day after shock Jan increase when $ rates jumped a few cents in a day /i got rate of $1.95-£1 at Travelex using a price match from TEG quote

they have since dropped a little bit but are coming back up to close $2-£1 ( actual rates not tourist rates) . if there is not a rise they will most likely hover around what they are now. as has been posted before while America 's woes grow and Bush is in power $2-£1 ish rates are here for for a while

if you are using travelex be very sure to use the price match service. only takes a 30 second phone call to TEG and a e mail to travelex.

    here is how
For price matching: order through Travelex online as you would do normally, then call up TEG (02072401214 or 02078281880) and get a quote re their exchange rate. Email Travelex: customerservices@travelex.com (must be done on the same day) stating the following: your Travelex reference number, your currency quote from TEG (and the fact you got it from TEG) and your address (Travelex will send you a cheque refunding the difference). Also Travelex normally acknowledge receipt of your email. Full terms and conditions of the Travelex Price Promise are on the Travelex website

    (from member pin)

remember you must do it on the same day as your purchase !!!

    have a great holiday
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:
  • you currently get a lot of dollars for your pound so I'd get it now. I doubt it will move much over the next 6 weeks but no one knows. Unless you're changing a lot of money it's not going to make that much difference. Consider withdrawing money while you're in the US as you're likely to get a better rate (although you may be charged a fixed fee for the withdrawel so take as much out in one go as poss)

Buy your goodies on a Nationwide Credit Card, get cash from an ATM with a Nationwide Debit Card. Just make sure that the bank that owns the machine doesn't charge you.
The Publix supermarket chain have their own ATMs, they are all free.

I also swear by Crown currency exchange.com They are reliable for dollars and Euros. The current rate for delivery to you in 22-30 days is $ 1.9351
