Car Insurance Issue...

Hi guys, not sure if this is the right section for this so feel free to move if I’ve made a mistake.

This is basically concerning my car insurance, for the last few months my car insurer has been hounding me for documents, and it all started with a letter sent around the end of August to my home telling me my policy was going to be cancelled as the “documents requested” had not been sent, now I’d not received any letters before this so assumed it was sent by mistake so wrote to the email address on the letter explaining the situation. They replied telling me they’d requested my v5 and licence at the start of the month (which they hadn’t) so I sent them and didn’t hear anything for a while.

A couple of weeks later I received a similar letter so I called and they explained they still needed it along with proof I went to Plymouth Univeristy, I sent this by mail and again assumed that was the end of it until I received the same letter again, this time I was quite annoyed and rang again, they explained I needed to send the back of the counterpart (why I don’t know?!) as I’d not sent that so I did this so I sent it via post. Again I believed that was the end of it, oh no.

On Monday I received a letter informing me my car insurance had been cancelled of immediate effect, now I hadn’t checked my email til I got to work so I actually drove to work without insurance without knowing it, I’d not received any calls warning me or not even another of the fabled letters, I called them assuming another mistake but no, apparently they’d never received my letter, “no problem” I said “ I can email them now” the reply was infuriating beyond belief… “Sorry sir it’s already been cancelled but you can start a new policy today” now I had little choice but to accept this ( for now) apparently I’m getting a sum back (which equates to less than half of what I’d actually be owed if it was worked out monthly) and now need to tick that box on car insurance sites that says have you ever had to cancel a policy, which will rule me out of most of the “good driver” insurers. Is there anything I can do about this?...

Formal Complaint in writing. Dont deal with them via emails.

    Send it recorded delivery.

If they dont come through with the results you expect then escalate it.
