Bank charges on overdraft spiralling
tunc
My bf is unemployed and on Jobseekers. Has has been overdrawn for some time and foolishly didn't cancel all his DD's. Since then the bank have bounced a couple of DD which has sent him over his overdraft limit and now they are charging him over and over. The charges are spiralling out of control and the debt is getting bigger. My question is, if he wrote to the bank and explained his situation could he get them to freeze the account and stop any further charges? He intends to pay back the overdraft when he finds work but I don't think it's fair that he has to pay all these charges too? How do we stop an already awful situation getting worse? Any advice?

The bank charges have been deemed fair.
However most banks if you ask nicely and explain your situation will agree to freeze charges whilst you sort yourselves out.
This wont be indefinite though, normally a couple of months at the most.0
