British gas help needed
I am posting for a friend of mine. This is the situation she was running a public house with a partne, the relationship broke down in Apr 2010 and my friend left the premises, the partnership was disolved at this point however my friend ex carried on running the pub untill Oct 2010.
When the partnership was dissolved my friend spoke to British Gas and informed them of this and e-mailed a copy of the Accountants letter stating she was no longer responsible for the electricity at the premises. In response to this she receive a bill from B Gas dated Dec 2010, which states balance from previous period zero, balance on account 769 in credit.
My friend then thought nothing else of it, until this sat she received a letter from British Gas stating they had continually been writing to her and she owed £4,500. Upon speaking to B Gas she was told this was an error and she actually owes £2,000.
They are saying the credit note should have gone to her partner as she left in Apr, but there is no way any money has been paid of the account in that short period as he subsequently went bankrupt. They are also saying this was for another account and the property had two meters which is incorrect and surely if this was the case it would be a different account number.
She has no proof of what was paid prior to her leaving as the relationship ended badly and she cannot get access to the books.
Any advice gratefully received.
