The trouble is, your attitude of
Im just lazy as hell when it comes to paying my debts... I pay them, just not when they like...
is not one that should be promoted on these forums.
If you just said that yes you got finance (with argos) and had rubbish credit rating then that would have sufficed.0 -
And you think a post like this is helpful on a money-saving forum because.........?
Enjoy your childish attitude towards your debts but don't recommend them to others.
Sorry stupid, what did I recommend him to do ?
He asked if he could get finance with bad history... I told him he could and gave him a reason why I believed that...
Didnt know he wanted advice with his debts like you seem to think.
Lets say... You were in debt and wanted something on finance (Sound familiar) ?
Would you like to know from someone who had bad debt also at one point and successfully took out finance?
Or would you like someone to come and not talk about anything on topic? (That bit is you)
not a tough call IMO0 -

What matters to you about my attitude ?
He wanted advice, I told him what I thought and gave him a reason why I posted it lol...
Did I say that was the way to go lol?
Do people really require me to go back and edit to "Im lazy.... I dont advise you do what I did if you are actually stupid enough to copy me" ?
Thought common sense would kick in at that part for most... Clearly not
How did I promote people to not pay bills? I just stated with what I did.. I could still take out finance... meaning... its possible for him.0 -
So is it worth asking, or best left alone... Thank you for your comments
Why not ask, if they say no then you save up for 1 or look on ebay for any that are being sold locally and you hire a van to collect it or look on freecycle for 1.
Maybe try 1 of the charity shops, think the BHF(british heart foundation) sell furniture (well the big 1 in town does) so give them a call.Possibly a silly question but how long would it take to save £800?
Now you know this question is in the wrong part of the forums.0 -
Loads of good sofas going free on friday ads, freecyclye, freegal, freemeso etc. etc. etc. Many of them are in great condition and leather - I'd just sweet talk a friend with a van to do a bit of driving until we found the perfect freebie.
I know it doesn't answer your question, but in the spirit of moneysaving - have a look what's out there!0 -
I can't really comment on the getting credit thing, my experience of poor credit indicates unlikely however:
Having done the sofa on finance thing (DH's name not mine) my advice is don't waste your money. My "bargain" dfs sofa which we had on 0% credit has barely lasted the finance term. As the others say save up and buy one at the correct price in the first place!
DH have money put aside this time to replace it. The ones we have seen are half the price and twice as well built.
Just my input HTHCan I ever learn this budgeting lark? So far it's not looking promising

Please don't go to dfs. You would be better to buy a second hand top quality sofa off ebay with your £400.:j Trytryagain FLYLADY - SAYE £700 each month Premium Bonds £713 Mortgage Was £100,000@20/6/08 now zilch 21/4/15:beer: WTL - 52 (I'll do it 4 MUM)0

I agree with saving up for a decent one. The trouble is that people default with finance companies and they load the cost of servicing that in to the product, so you'll always get a better deal purchasing in cash with a company that doesn't offer it.
Either wait a bit longer and cut back discretionary spending to get to your £800 sooner (but buy from a proper furniture shop) or if your desperate get a second hand one for a while then eBay and replace with a new one when you're ready.
My sister and law had identical looking sofas at almost the same time 5 years ago, we also paid almost the same price (I think hers was about £100 cheaper). Mine is still almost as good as new. Hers is really saggy and faded and she is looking to replace it. I bought mine from a retailer that doesn't offer finance, she did.I'm a qualified accountant but please make sure you get expert advice as any opinion is made in a private capacity.

I love the "just a few thousand here and there"..It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.0
