Council cutbacks

Just phoned my council to ask for more bags to put my compostable waste in and they said I should go to the council offices and pick them up myself!!! What do we pay inflated council tax for? When I asked why they were no longer delivering them to households, she said cutbacks. So I asked why the guys that collect the waste couldn't drop of a roll of bags at the same time. 'oh they only collect, they won't deliver!' Who employs them? Shouldn't they do what they're asked? And how about just working more efficiently instead of just cutting back on services?

I pushed the point (more on principle than anything else, this recycling is supposed to be helping the planet but they want everyone to drive to their office to pick up the bags?!?) and she agreed to get some delivered to me. I really don't see why the collection guys can't drop of a couple of rolls once or twice a year.

    Oh, stop complaining !

Don't you realise that your Council is doing its best to meet its "Green" targets by not sending out one lorry to deliver to 100 people. It is much better if those 100 people get into their cars and all drive to town and collect the bags.

Then the Council can say it is cutting back on vehicle emissions AND it can criticise you at the same time for using your car !!!! ;)

Couldnt agree with you more ! !

    did you know that:

the majority of Councils that send a bill, only 10p of every pound of the average Council Tax is used to pay for the District Council's services. the rest goes to The county authority to pay for services eg Police Force.

I pay to keep our local police station open..
In fact it is more of a hut in the village and I have NEVER seen a policeman in it. It has a very helpful notice outside the constantly locked door which reads (sort of)....
IF YOU ARE BEING CHASED BY MARAUDING GANGS AND HAVE REACHED THE SANCTUARY OF THIS POLICE STATION WE ARE SORRY BUT IT IS CLOSED. PLEASE DIAL 999 WITH YOUR BROKEN FINGERS BEFORE THEY NICK YOUR MOBILE PHONE AND A POLICECAR WILL ARRIVE WITHIN 2 HOURS.
