How do I check broadband profile

From the BT community forum they're suggesting that the data rates of 2272/288 kbps means our neighbour is not even on variable ADSL. They reckon its a fixed speed broadband service. (2MB).
Why have BT Line1 and Line2 support not mentioned that then? Line2 are playing with the SN Margin but, again, I've been told that that won't make any difference as they're on a fixed line. What!? So now have to re-contract.If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0 -
Yes it is a fixed profile. Sometimes people get put on it if they have stability problems. The real question apart from the profile is why does your neighbour have close to 50dB attenuation when you have 27dB.
It could be different routing or it could be a fault somewhere - to eliminate internal wiring faults try your router and filter on his line to see what stats that gives.0 -
^ thanks; tried that but forgot to take stats. I'll try again tomorrow. I take your point about the attenuation. If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0

BT have done a line reset (or whatever its called and said it takes exactly 4 days, ending today). They claim (this is level2 support) that they took the speed cap off - no evidence of that 2 days ago.
The main problem is that DSL is still loosing sync once a day and is solved by turning the router ON/OFF. I don't understand this. Perhaps its a router fault (2 month old TP-LINK). And toggling the router like this wont help the line reset I think.
Anyway will go back again today and get the router stats again. Next I think I'll be demanding an engineer visit. If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0 -

Have a read through that PDF.
(Yes, it says ADSL2+, but the same tips apply for ADSL).0 -
^ thanks. We cannot get ADSL2 around here but I guess the theories are the same.If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0

I said I'd get the stats but didn't until today. I think we've found something.
CONNECTED TO MASTER(NOT TEST) SOCKET
UP / DOWN
SN Margin 31 / 24 (next door - mine - is 21/10)
Attenuation 16 / 33 (14/27)
MAX data 1276 / 8448 (line undergoing training)
data 288 / 2272
CONNECTED TO EXTENSION (default location)
UP / DOWN
SN Margin 14 / 5
Attenuation 32 / 49
MAX data 828 / 3680
data 288 / 2272
1. So less attenuation at the master socket means there IS a fault with the extension/ADSL filter/phone wire from ADSL filter
Emabarassing I didn't spot this straight away.
2. Despite being told by a number of people "you need to re-contract to get above 2Meg" BT Tier2 insist that by midnight tonite that the connection will be above 2Meg. I got them to promise this and verified the conversation was being taped. But that data sitting at 288/2272 hasn't budged yet...If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0 -
They need a NTE5 socket by the sounds of it , I bet the extensions are linked via a star arrangement , and the "master" socket isn't the one you think it is mine was like that but TalkTalk sorted that for me (not a sales Pitch since I am still arguing the heads/tails over that) Losing the bell wire may help but hey see if they can get a free engineer visit.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex .
