Not sure if this is the right place but my partner has just received a SCAM email from "Barclaycard" - I know it's not a real one even though he has an account with them as they've not sent it to his proper email address but a made up one (edited out email addys) :
Dear XXXXXXX,
We recently reviewed your account, and we suspect an unauthorized ATM based transaction. Therefore as
a preventive measure we will temporary limit your access to sensitive Barclays features. To ensure that
your account is not compromised, please login to your Barclays Online Banking and verify your identity to
prevent deactivation.
SERVICE: Barclays Online Banking.
What you need to do:
- Go to: Barclays Online Banking

Hi nikki
A friend of mine received an identical email yesterday and she does not even bank with Barclays! I told her to not touch it, the only concern is that they sent it to her proper email address?
Cheers

Some giveaways in phishing emails like this are the spelling and grammar, in this case it's Americanised and not as formal as a communication from Barclay would be, I think, e.g:
'unauthorized' (US spelling with a 'z')
'preventive' (would normally be 'preventative')
Then it ends 'thanks' where you would expect 'thankyou' and 'Barclays Centre' doesn't sound right either does it?
Must admit a few years ago I got caught by a fake eBay email when I was not savvy with these things....wasn't feeling well that day either and just filled all the info in (and I used to work in a Bank!). Looking at it the next day, feeling better, I realised what I had done due to the bad grammar in the email and the info they had asked (too much). Luckily Lloyds cancelled the account and/or card with one phone call to them, and they didn't blame me (I did though, felt totally stupid and don't click on links in pretty much any email now...).
Glad the Barclays one was spotted, OP.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

I have had several of these false emails off 3 or 4 different banks/building societies.
I happened to receive one off my own bank which i knew was fake as your bank shouldnt contact you by email asking for details.0 -
If you mange your credit card online, who on earth don't you change your e-mail contact address to (for example) "joe.blogss+natwestcard@googlemail.com" or "joe.boggs+barclaycard@googlemail.com" or similar?
The +natwestcard or +barclaycard part is ignored by your e-mail server but gets through to your ordinary e-mail address - so you can then tell instantly which are genuine e-mails from YOUR issuer and which are phishing.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
