Global Energy Credits

I've received a number of phone calls from a company called Global Energy Credits informing me about investment opportunities in the carbon market.

Has anyone heard of them?

What are people's thoughts of investing in the carbon and carbon offsetting market?

Thanks for the link - really helpful!
  • Unless they're selling through a company that is FSA regulated avoid them like the plague. As far as I can tell they opened this year as well so I wouldn't go near them.

The vast majority, if not all, carbon credits companies that are trying to sell direct to consumers are scams. You can pretty much guarantee that any investment company selling via cold calling is also a scam and is not regulated by the FSA.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

You have received excellent advice already in terms of never dealing with companies that call *you*.

My thoughts on this are as follows. I like to trade or invest in liquid markets where there is relatively complete transparency in terms of price discovery, at the moment this is not really the case here. I am not sure I like or see any real reason that an emissions allowance system actually exists, it would seem to generate profits but not much else. Technology is what will lower our emissions, not a traded liquidity pool. Lastly, these markets are almost entirely legislation driven. If the EUA system was no longer necessary because everyone is hitting emissions targets then if scrapped what happens to funds invested?

What is it that attracts you?

Thats not necessarily true. My father invested in a company that cold called him offering gold and silver spot and made great returns, but I would be wary. Normally if I hear "rare earth metals" I hang up.

"gold and silver spot" - what is that?

This sounds like a "cool story bro" kind of situation.

  • I worked for this company for 3 months before I realised there was something not right about them and left. They play the noise of a busy trading floor on a laptop in the background as there was only 4 others who were on the phone to make it sound like we was on a trading floor. The owners are swanning around in Ferarris abroad while a unprofessional Director who lacks people skills forces the sales people in Hull to badger Private Investors in their own home to get them to part with a minimum of £3000 - although they will let you invest less as they need to get sales. When I say badger I mean badger - You are only given so many numbers to call and you need to do a great deal of calls in a day or you will be fired so sometimes I was calling the same number 15-20 times a day until they answered. They are not FSA regulated. They rent the small office they work in and from looking into the directors past they have had previous companies that have failed. DO NOT INVEST WITH GLOBAL ENERGY CREDITS!!!!!
