Hello,
I was wondering if anybody here has filled the disability allowance form in for rheumatoid arthritis, my mother suffers with this in every single joint in her body, yet when she filled the form in over 12 months ago, it got declined, we are hoping to reapply as she is deteriorating quite quickly, and wanted some advice.
Thanks

The National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society would seem to be a good place start - they have a guide to claiming DLA

I'd give Benefits and work a go http://www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/disability-living-allowance-dla
It's worth registering with them to get the advice pdfs on how to complete the forms.
Remember when completing the application form it has got nothing to do with her diagnosis but everything to do with how it affects her.Unite Disability Champion & Equality Rep0 -
if you are declined again next time
make sure you appeal in person with some help to do so
from a welfare rights officer or similar.
also keep copies of any forms you submit.0 -
As an example, I am aware of a lady of 68 that has multiple arthralgia of her joints. She is unable to do very little for herself. Yet she was refused DLA 3 years ago and has made 3 separate Attendance Allowance claims over the past 3 years - all ended in complete failure.
I wish you well in your endeavours.
I have been told that this type of 'disability' is commonly claimed for and that it does represent the condition for the greatest number of claims made.
Hence it is used by many that attempt to make these claims who in reality have a non diagnostic condition.
Especially for this condition you will be required to submit extremely good medical evidence that confirms the needs and inabilities and NOT what the problems/conditions are. Many attempt to make a claim without this level of evidence and are doomed from the start.
It is thought by the DWP to be the 'condition of choice' at the moment along with the 'bad back' for DLA claims, whereas 'depression' is the 'condition of choice' for current ESA claims.0
