Redecorating a Reception room, colour ideas

We have some pale green sofas and teal coloured curtains.

Its a south facing reception room (17 feet by 14 feet and 10 feet high) and we want to give it a revamp as its been sunny yellow for 7-years.

It has a dado rail (about 3 feet off the floor) and I was toying with the idea of going with two shades of green. One lighter (above the dado) and the other darker (below the dado).

For example, the lighter green - dublin bay 5 and the darker green - dublin bay 6.

An alternative was substituting the darker green for white below the dado.

Any comments and alternatives ideas welcomed :)

I'd guess it would depend on the shade of your sofa and curtains whether that would go.It could go well though.

I'd be tempted with a light greyish neutral aswell

My study is green and black.. in a large light room a dark green will look a bit lighter but I think the darker green might be too dark.

I wouldn't put white below a dado rail (apologies if I've misunderstood). It will get dirty really quickly from scuffs etc.

Edit: I think it's also usual to have the darker colour below the rail so that the ceiling isn't make to look lower by having a darker colour on top.
