Credit card machine

Hi
My son is buying a car from a company and have been waiting for the companies credit card machine to be installed from 7/10.

When deposit was put down for the car the owner said that the line had been installed but all he needs is the machine now. He says that his bank keep telling him it should be about 2 wks for the machine to be installed...he has now been waiting since end of Sep.
Since last wk he has told my son to pay by Paypal and he would pay the % charged as this means he can finalise his sales for this month (Oct).

Paying for a car through Paypal gives no protection so would prefer to pay by credit card machine and wondered if it is normal for a company to wait this lengh of time for a machine?

Thanks

I only know one person who requested a machine - it was connected to a standard analogue phone line and has to call a number for authorisation. Took about a month, as even when he got the machine, it didn't work. Apparently needed to be activated or some such. Each transaction seems to take an age (about 30 seconds). You can see it on the display saying "Dialling", "Connecting", etc.

At the computer fair they have hand held boxes you slide the card in. I presume they have a sim as they started to stand in one spot to get a better signal so it connected faster.

Some companies at computer fairs don't even bother with that - they take your details at the show but don't process the transaction until they are back at base. Such companies can only process offline cards however.
  • When at where I work we set up a new depot, it took a while to get the line installed.

But once the machine arrived it was connected verified and was working. From point of order to using was 2 weeks.
