Went to PC World this morning to purchase a Toshiba L30-101 Laptop which came with a free 512MB memory upgrade. Apart from getting terrible service from above all a manager, when we were about to pay for it, the assistant suddenly said that the guarantee is void once we put the memory upgrade into the laptop, despite them giving it away for free. However, they did suggest that we purchase their guarantee for £8.99 a month. We walked out. NEVER SHOP AT PC WORLD!!!!

Yup, sounds about right.
They hate me in there...I'm a woman...who knows more about computers than them...they think they are in a parallel universe when I go in, and it troubles them.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. They do suck.
And I'd be deeply troubled if a basic memory upgrade voids any warranty - especially if they fit it instore...0 -

Interesting!
Do PC world have female staff in there? You should talk to the woman in sales. See who knows more about computers ! Before you talk about shopping trolleys and make up.....lol....0 -

I was given the same spin once. Clearly it wouldn't invalidate the warranty and I said that any shop that said such a thing would be cowboy operators of the highest order. They agreed that it would only be a effect the warranty if adding the memory caused a malfunction.0 -

I totally agree, i work in computing and can out talk any of them, and does anyone else think that new advert is incredibily patronising?
It's like ooo have you done your homework? little girls shouldn't know about computers:mad:
Personally i wouldn't but anything from them - especially software. They are one of the few retailers that will not take software back if it doesn't work on your system. I understand why - pirating etc but computer games sometimes will not work on a pc that meets minimum system requirements (I had that problem with the Sims)Had a thrifty wedding 17-06-10

I don't work with computers, but most of the time I will answer peoples queries for them because the sales staff don't know what they are talking about!
If you really want a laugh, ask them what computers are compatable for Linux!0 -

yup same, here, when i bought my last desktop i had done all my research and knew what i wanted, they tried to talk me into a better, higher spec machine and spend more cash but i wasnt having it, then they tried to sell me the warranty and i explained im quite capable of fixing it myself etc
i was soo ready just to walk out when he relented and let me pay for the last thing
saying that currys are just as bad, bought a lappy from them a few weeks ago and was looking at the clearence one as i wanted xp and they had no spec on the price tag, asked this boy to get me the spec and he looked at me as if i was nuts0
