Most local authorities insist on either DLA (Mobility component) at Higher Rate, or residents being over 65.

But, it may be worth contacting whoever deals with it at your local council and asking.

Some may accept a GP letter.

It can vary greatly depending on which area you live in & of course what kind of disability you have. In London there is the Freedom Pass but different borough's have their own criteria. In some boroughs it's easier to get than others. The borough I currently live in are quite strict about who they do & don't issue the disabled pass to, whereas my previous borough didn't have such stringent rules.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Below is the link to 'FREE Travel and Concessions':

    https://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTransport/PublicTransport/BusAndCoachTravel/DG_10036264

One of the links on that web page takes you to 'Bus passes factsheet'. Here's the link for convenience:

Hope you find this useful. I get mine next week!

    Best wishes for cheaper travelling!

In Scotland, you can get a bus pass, which entitles you to free travel all over Scotland (buses, trains, subway, ferry, etc...), no restrictions (excluding night buses) but you must get DLA, have a learning disibility, or have some other medical problem; but you wont get it without DLA / leaning disibility (has to be quite severar)

Because we dont know where about your from Lexi, its hard for us to say how you would be best obtaining one of them.

Do remember though, that bus passes are mainly for people with disibilities, and as you said, you dont get DLA

Apart from the bus travel can can you provide a link to the free rail and ferry travel please as these do not fall within the remit of the national entitlement card scheme.
Schme rules only permit very limited concessions to some island residents using certain ferry services and in terms of rail travel, disabled users are given an option to purchase a disabled persons rail card which gives a third off the ticket cost.

    Or am i incorrect?

thanx to all replys. With Morglins advice i checked out my local councils, ( i live in lincolnshire) website & found a bus pass link & form. They give a few examples of proof of disability. I emailed them about a doctors medical certificate ( which was one example). They replied saying that i should get a med cert & send it on to them with a completed form & would be happy to deal with my request. So i am going to see my GP & then send off the forms & hopefully i will qualify! thanx again.

Sorry, i made a mistake. The Free travel on trains, subway, ferrys etc... in Scotland, is for those who have vision problems. My mistake :o

BUT, i DO know, if you have a pass, you CAN get free rail travel and bus travel, within Edinburgh (if your pass is from EDC) - not sure about other citys

If you find you dont, dont hessitate to ask them for to send you a document of reasons. On this, you can look at each reason, and circle each comment you disagree with, and give your reasons why you disagree, then appeal ;)
