Do I have a claim

Help please.
I was sold PPI when taking out my mortgage in 2000 with Coventry building society. The PPI was through Aviva, then Norwich union. At the time I was told if I did not take the PPI I was unlikely to get the mortgage, so I took it out and still paying for it. Can anyone tell if I have grounds for a claim.

Thank you in advance.

    Hello there

I'm sure Dunstonh, or MagpieCottage will advise you further on this one, but you pursue whoever set up and sold you the mortgage account with the ppi.;)

Unless you can prove your allegation that alone has no chance,

Can you support your allegation with evidence?
    Who sold it to you?

remember there is nothing wrong with having PPI to protect your mortgage

Not only is there nothing wrong but unless you were incapable of making a valid claim at the time you took it out then it is very good advice.

If you had lost your income, you would have received no state assistance for nine months - by which time it would probably have been too late to save your home.
  • There is no way of having evidence of your discussion with an adviser 12 years ago. It is the responibility of the selling agent to defend the claim, the burden of proof lies with them. If you were told that taking out the PPI would improve your chance of taking the loan (which is obviously incorrect) then you have cause for complaint. Register your complaint with Coventry Building Society, nothing to lose by doing so.

    No it is not.

If you were told that then it is wrong. However, there is unlikely to be any evidence to support that allegation. Without any other identified failing or an auto payout decision, you would expect that complaint to be rejected.

  • Banks and the ombudsman look at the likelihood that what you say is true, based on what different sales teams were typically saying at the time you got your loan – so not having proof shouldn’t bar you from getting your money back. - As stated by Martin Lewis himself

Nothing bars you from making a claim.

However one word against anothers without any physical proof will almost certainly fail.
