I wonder if you can help.
I am considering buying Subbuteo for my 8 year old for Christmas this year.
Do you know if they come in different editions/types, if so what is best to get.
To be honest I have heard great things about it, but not sure what it is, if you can fill me in I would be grateful.
He is football mad!
Thanks

Subbuteo is table football. It's been around for decades. The little figures are about 1" high, with a semi-circle base which you flick with your fingertip to move the players around and kick the ball.
I'm no expert on the current versions of the game, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if you could get different teams.
Edit:
Yes, the main game comes with two teams - red shirts and blue shirts, plus goals etc.

But you can then buy licensed versions of Premier League teams separately if you want (but of course they will date quite quickly).0 -
There used to be loads of different types of boxed sets and you could get extras like stands and floodlights. Unfortunately sales dwindled during the 1990s no doubt due to the rival attraction of computer consoles so they stopped making them.
Hasbro revived the game a few years ago but they have quite a basic range now although as Yorkie1 said you can buy some teams separately.

There used to be Subbuteo Cricket as well which was interesting especially when attempting to hit a six. Invariably the cloth pitch, all the players, the wickets and the stumps and possibly the ball would go flying across the room.0 -
Subbuteo used to be really popular when I was young, but many youngsters nowadays just seem to sit in front of a computer screen, and never do anything which involves skill or interaction.
Here is a link to Ebay and some of the stuff available - teams, sets and the like.

My son is 6 and football daft, we had also looked at subbuteo on the internet for his christmas but have decided on Total Action Football, similiar but the reviews state that it is easier to play as the players are magnetic.0

OP, if you DO go for Subbuteo, buy a few extra teams, so your son can play more than 1 match0

Thanks,
Do you know if there are spares provided for Total Action Football?
I have read on the reviews that they can break and lose the ball.0 -
No I dont think there are spares but we had a look on ebay and loads of people selling used/parts missing Total Action sets so we will go down that route WHEN... not IF something gets lost lol, my son doesnt seem to be able to keep anything in one piece x0
